The Team
The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre is a designated mental health facility within the Ministry of Children and Family Development, offering services in Coquitlam, Prince George, and Vernon, along with outreach support across the province. Our multidisciplinary team includes Child and Youth Care Workers, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Nurses, Indigenous Child Care Counsellors, and Recreation staff, who bring a wide range of skills and lived experiences. Together, we work with respect, shared responsibility, and cultural humility to support the mental health and well-being of young people and their families.
The Role
The Shift Supervisor provides clinical and operational leadership within a specialized youth mental health treatment program, guiding an interdisciplinary team in delivering safe, therapeutic, and evidence-informed care. The role oversees admissions, treatment planning, crisis response, staffing, and program operations while ensuring compliance with legislative and clinical standards. Through leadership, mentorship, and collaboration with families and community partners, this position has a direct impact on improving outcomes for youth experiencing significant mental health challenges. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Registered or eligible for immediate registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the registration process with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in Mental Health Nursing.
- Recent (within the last five (5) years) supervisory experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with no restrictions and meets the transportation requirements of the Ministry.
Preference may be given for:
- One (1) or more years of experience working within the service delivery system for difficult to manage or psychiatrically ill individuals throughout the province.
- Residential care and direct support experience.
- Recognized courses in supervision and/or health care management, relevant to the position.
- Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
Proviso / Willingness Statements:
- Shift work is a requirement as this is a 24-hour facility. Must be able to work days, evenings, midnights and weekends.
- Travel, as necessary, is a requirement; you may be required to use your own vehicle, with appropriate insurance, on an expense account basis.
- May be required to work with families and children and youth who are distressed and facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant situations or behaviour with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around young people in crisis who may display volatile behaviour.
- Must have or be willing to be trained in Basic First Aid.
- Must be willing and able to provide First Aid coverage and medical support for staff, as required under WorkSafeBC guidelines.
