Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Pet Care Provider to join our team. In this role, you will provide exceptional care for dogs and other pets through walking, in-home visits, and pet sitting services. You will ensure the safety, well-being, and happiness of each pet in your care, while building trust with their families. This position is ideal for individuals with experience in animal handling and a genuine love for pets.
Duties
- Walk dogs in all weather conditions, ensuring they receive adequate exercise and mental stimulation.
- Monitor pet behavior and health during visits, reporting any concerns to owners.
- Maintain a safe environment for pets by following leash laws and staying alert to surroundings.
- Assist with pet care needs such as feeding, bathroom breaks, and administering medications.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding care, updates, and observed behaviors.
- Handle multiple pets at once while ensuring each pet’s safety and comfort.
- Perform physical tasks as needed, such as walking large dogs or carrying supplies.
Requirements
- 18+ years old and physically able to walk and manage large dogs.
- Reliable transportation (public transit not an option).
- Clean criminal record check (via Edmonton Police or RCMP only).
- Proven experience in dog handling or animal care (e.g., pet sitting, training, veterinary assistant, kennel, or equine experience).
- Strong understanding of animal behavior and handling techniques.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Reliable, trustworthy, flexible, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of pet behavior & body language (asset).
- Experience with or knowledge of fear-free methods (we do not use adverse tools or training methods).
- Ability to perform animal restraint safely when necessary.
Schedule & Pay
- Hours can range from between 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM, depending on client needs.
- Typically 3–15 hours per week, with the potential for more as we grow.
- Pay starts at $15.00 per hour.
- After the probation period, employees receive a daily phone allowance and mileage reimbursement.
