Position Summary
The ICI Foreman is responsible for leading field operations on industrial, commercial, and institutional excavation projects while actively working alongside the crew. This role oversees day-to-day site activities, ensures work is completed safely and according to specifications, and maintains strong communication between the field and the project management team. The Foreman plays a key hands-on leadership role—coordinating labour and equipment needs, interpreting plans and drawings, troubleshooting issues on site, and supporting a safe, productive, and efficient work environment. This position requires a skilled equipment operator with strong technical knowledge, proven supervisory experience, and the ability to deliver high-quality results in fast-paced construction setting.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as a working foreman on ICI excavating projects, while actively working alongside your crew.
- Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, skid steers, and dozers.
- Perform various labour tasks on job sites as needed.
- Review project specifications and drawings to fully understand the scope of work.
- Train, support, and manage day-to-day field staff assigned to your projects.
- Foster a collaborative team environment, setting daily and weekly production goals with your crew.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with the project superintendent.
- Provide details daily to the superintendent on production progress, material needs, trucking, equipment and tools needed for the following day.
- Support on-site health and safety initiatives by completing daily JSA’s, conducting weekly safety talks, and performing jobsite inspections.
- Ensure all daily work tickets are completed accurately, with all time-and-materials (T&M) tickets fully documented and signed in a timely manner.
- Communicate any team/crew morale issues to the Operations Manager and support as needed.
- Perform additional duties as required to support project needs.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in ICI excavating or a related construction field.
- Minimum 2-3 years of demonstrated hands-on field leadership experience, with the ability to motivate, train, and mentor crew members.
- Proficient equipment operator with a solid understanding of excavation practices and equipment capabilities.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting project plans, specifications, and construction drawings.
- Working knowledge of construction regulations, Book 7 traffic control, and construction best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with project managers, inspectors, and team members.
- Highly safety conscious with a strong commitment to maintaining an OHSA-compliant work environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work to meet deadlines and production goals.
- Valid G license with a clean driving record is required.
