Position Summary
SIRCH Community Services is seeking an energetic and customer-focused youth (ages 15-30) to join our Thrift Warehouse team as a Store Cashier through the Canada Summer Jobs program. This exciting opportunity provides a dynamic work environment where you'll develop essential retail and customer service skills while supporting a community-focused organization. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and committed to providing excellent customer service. You'll gain valuable experience in cash handling, customer interactions, and store operations while contributing to SIRCH's mission of community resilience and support. The Thrift Warehouse Store Cashier position is crucial to SIRCH Community Services' mission of fostering community resilience and creating positive change. By efficiently processing sales transactions and providing exceptional customer service, the Cashier generates revenue that supports critical community programs. Through daily interactions, the Cashier promotes inclusivity, embodies organizational values, and helps build strong community connections. This role directly supports SIRCH's vision of creating a more sustainable, supportive, and interconnected community by serving as a welcoming frontline representative of the organization.
Being the Face of SIRCH
SIRCH team members help bring our mission to life, and we are proud to showcase the people behind our work. As part of working at SIRCH, staff may be photographed or filmed at any SIRCH location (including warehouses, the Bistro & Bakery, offices, programs, and community events) for use in our internal and external communications, such as social media, our website, printed materials, reports, and promotional videos. By applying for this position, candidates are excited to positively represent SIRCH and our community in these public-facing spaces. Responsibilities
Cash Handling and Sales Transactions
· Operate Cash Register and Process Sales Transactions: Accurately handle cash, credit, and debit transactions using the cash register. Ensure all sales are processed efficiently and securely.
· Screen and accept/decline donations, ensuring compliance with store policies.
· Take priced items from the Receiving Bay to the sales floor.
· Accurately price items based on store policies, considering factors such as brand, condition, and market trends.
Customer Service
· Provide Excellent Customer Service: Greet customers warmly, assist with inquiries, and address any concerns to ensure a pleasant shopping experience.
· Help Customers Locate Items: Provide assistance to customers in finding specific items or navigating the store layout, enhancing their overall shopping experience.
· Bag Purchases and Thank Customers: Carefully bag customer purchases and express gratitude for their business, encouraging repeat visits and building customer loyalty.
· Interact with customers to understand their preferences and provide assistance in locating specific items.
Store Operations and Merchandising
· Assist with Store Organization and Cleanliness: Help maintain the store's appearance by organizing merchandise, restocking shelves, and ensuring cleanliness throughout the store.
· Assist to Create appealing displays: Design and implement eye-catching merchandise displays that showcase clothing and other items effectively.
· Maintain Merchandise Presentation: Regularly assess and refresh displays to keep the store looking inviting and up-to-date with seasonal trends or promotions.
Team Collaboration and Store Initiatives
· Work closely with other store staff to coordinate efforts in merchandising, including receiving new donations and preparing them for display.
· Participate in store promotions or events by creating themed displays that align with marketing campaigns.
· Help communicate the thrift store's mission and values through visual merchandising efforts that highlight sustainability and community support.
By fulfilling these responsibilities, the Thrift Store Cashier will contribute to a welcoming atmosphere at SIRCH Thrift Warehouse while supporting the organization's mission of serving the community.
