Five Acre Co. rentals is an event rental and production company based in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. Five Acre Co. is a production services company providing professional audio, lighting, staging, and technical support for concerts, festivals, corporate events, private events, and live productions. We support artists, organizers, and communities by providing reliable infrastructure, experienced technical support, and thoughtful event planning. We are looking for an experienced General Audio Technician to join our team and help deliver high-quality audio experiences for audiences at the KCC.
Position Overview
The General Audio Technician is responsible for managing the audio department for events, including troubleshooting, show mixing, and problem-solving. This role requires strong technical knowledge, calm decision-making under pressure, and the ability to work collaboratively with clients, artists, production teams, and venue staff.
This position will work exclusively at the KCC, with pre-established audio equipment. The ideal candidate has experience working with audio equipment and is familiar with troubleshooting sound systems. Additionally, the candidate lives in Port Alberni and is willing to learn new skills and tools to succeed in production settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Mix front-of-house and/or monitor audio for concerts, corporate events, and other productions.
- Interpret and advance input lists, stage plots, RF requirements, and technical riders.
- Deploy and configure PA systems, consoles, microphones, wireless systems, IEMs, comms, playback, and related audio equipment.
- Tune and optimize sound systems for the event space as required.
- Troubleshoot signal flow, RF, networking, console, and system issues quickly and professionally.
- Maintain clear communication with production managers, artists, clients, stage managers, and other departments.
- Ensure that all audio equipment is handled safely, correctly, and according to company standards.
- Assist with equipment prep, loading, unloading, inventory, maintenance, and shop work as required.
- Promote a safe, organized, and professional work environment on site.
Qualifications
- Previous live audience experience.
- Strong knowledge of live sound systems, signal flow, gain structure, system tuning, and show mixing.
- Experience operating digital audio consoles such as Midas M32.
- Familiarity with PA deployment, amplification, DSP, and wireless systems.
- Ability to read and understand stage plots, input lists, technical riders, and patch documents.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and solutions-focused under pressure.
- Comfortable working long hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, and outdoor events as required.
- Able to lift and carry production equipment and work safely in physically demanding environments.
- Valid driver’s license is an asset.
- Certifications such as Dante, rigging, first aid, lift operation, or electrical safety are assets.
