Domestic DispatcherJob Overview
We are seeking an experienced, organized, and proactive Domestic Dispatcher to join our growing transportation team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating domestic freight movements, planning efficient routes, dispatching drivers, and ensuring on-time pickups and deliveries. This role requires excellent communication, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced logistics environment.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and dispatch domestic freight shipments efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Source and secure freight using Loadlink and other load boards.
- Plan and optimize routes to maximize equipment utilization and minimize transit times.
- Assign loads to drivers while monitoring Hours of Service (HOS), availability, and delivery schedules.
- Maintain regular communication with drivers, brokers, carriers, and customers to provide shipment updates and resolve issues.
- Track freight movements and proactively address delays, breakdowns, or service disruptions.
- Negotiate freight rates and coordinate with brokers and customers to maximize profitability.
- Enter and maintain accurate dispatch, load, and shipment information within the Transportation Management System (TMS).
- Ensure all shipping documentation is accurate and completed in accordance with company policies.
- Work closely with operations, customer service, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth freight movement.
- Maintain compliance with transportation regulations, safety standards, and company procedures.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with drivers and customers while delivering exceptional customer service.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Domestic Dispatcher in the transportation or logistics industry.
- Strong working knowledge of Loadlink, freight routing, dispatch operations, and load planning.
- Experience coordinating domestic truckload (TL) and less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments.
- Excellent knowledge of Canadian transportation routes and freight operations.
- Strong understanding of transportation regulations, driver scheduling, and Hours of Service.
- Experience using Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
- Exceptional organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
- Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with drivers, customers, and carriers.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with third-party logistics (3PL) providers.
- Knowledge of freight rate negotiation and carrier management.
- Familiarity with AS400, SyteLine, or other transportation management systems.
- Experience in cross-border freight operations is considered an asset.
