Top Smart Security & Tech is a growing security integration company serving commercial and residential customers across Eastern Ontario. We specialize in intrusion alarms, video surveillance, access control, networking, and smart security solutions.
As our business continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Security Systems Installer / IT Technician who takes pride in delivering quality work and outstanding customer service. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, working independently, and is comfortable with both physical installations and modern network technology.
Responsibilities
- Install, program, service and maintain intrusion alarm systems.
- Install and configure IP security cameras, NVRs and video management systems.
- Familiarity working with access control systems including card readers, electric strikes, magnetic locks, request-to-exit devices and related hardware.
- Knowledge of CCTV systems, computer networking, and VoIP
- Install, terminate and test Cat5e/Cat6 network cabling and other low-voltage wiring.
- Configure network equipment including switches, routers, wireless access points and network-connected security devices.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software and networking issues on-site.
- Read floor plans, wiring diagrams and installation drawings.
- Complete service calls, preventative maintenance and new installations.
- Accurately document work performed using our service management software.
- Configure computer hardware, networking equipment, and telecommunication systems to ensure optimal operation
- Communicate professionally with customers and explain system operation when installations are complete.
- Experience working with computer hardware components and troubleshooting network issues is a plus
- Prior experience in the use of hand tools and power tools for construction or installation projects is preferred .This role is ideal for technically skilled individuals eager to contribute to secure environments through innovative system installation and maintenance.
What We're Ideally Looking For (but welcome fast learners!)
- Minimum 2 years' experience installing and servicing electronic security or low-voltage systems.
- Strong knowledge of intrusion alarms, CCTV, IP video surveillance and access control.
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP addressing, routers, switches and Wi-Fi.
- Comfortable configuring Microsoft Windows computers and basic Microsoft networking.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel.
- Ability to troubleshoot both security equipment and network connectivity issues.
- Experience installing and testing structured cabling.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
Requirements
- Valid Ontario Driver's Licence with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift equipment, climb ladders and work in commercial, industrial and residential environments.
- Willingness to travel throughout the region with occasional overnight stays.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check if required by customer sites.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Well organized with good time management.
Assets That Would Set You Apart
- Experience with Ajax, Qolsys, DSC, Brivo or similar security platforms.
- Experience with commercial access control systems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, Windows networking or basic server administration.
- Experience with Microsoft, SharePoint or Teams administration.
- Working at Heights certification.
- Lift or aerial platform certification.
- Fibre optic installation or termination experience.
- Networking certifications
