Help Build the Next Generation of Heavy Civil Construction
Some companies need someone to protect the numbers. We're looking for someone who wants to help build the business behind them.
MacKay Contracting has earned its reputation by delivering complex infrastructure across Western Canada. Today, we're entering our next chapter with continued growth, new technology, and an ambition to become one of North America's premier heavy civil contractors.
As our Chief Financial Officer, you'll sit beside the GM, CEO, COO, and executive leadership team helping shape that future.
This isn't simply a finance position.
It's an opportunity to influence strategy, improve operational performance, and help build the company we'll become over the next decade.
What you'll help build
You'll create the financial systems, insight, and discipline that allow great operational teams to perform at their highest level.
Working alongside Operations, Estimating, Equipment, HR, and executive leadership, you'll help transform financial information into better decisions, stronger project performance, and long-term sustainable growth.
Success in this role isn't measured by reports. It's measured by the confidence those reports create throughout the business.
You'll help us:
- Build financial strategies that support long-term growth.
- Improve project profitability through better forecasting and financial accountability.
- Create dashboards and reporting that leadership actually uses to make decisions.
- Strengthen cash flow and capital planning so we're positioned for future opportunities.
- Lead banking, bonding, financing, and commercial relationships that support continued expansion.
- Help implement new technology and continuously improve the existing systems.
- Build a finance team that's viewed as a trusted business partner—not simply an accounting department.
You'll thrive here if...
- You enjoy solving business problems, not simply reporting on them.
- You naturally ask "Why?" before accepting the status quo.
- You like sitting with project managers, superintendents, and operational leaders just as much as accountants.
- You can challenge assumptions respectfully, simplify complex financial information, and help people make better decisions.
Most importantly, you enjoy building organizations, not simply maintaining them.
Your experience includes
- CPA designation.
- Senior financial leadership experience within construction, infrastructure, mining, or another project-based industry.
- Strong knowledge of project accounting, forecasting, cash flow, financing, and commercial risk.
- Experience leading high-performing finance teams.
- Executive-level communication skills.
- A track record of improving systems, processes, and business performance.
Why MacKay?
We're building something uncommon.
You'll help shape the financial future of a company that has grown from its roots in southeastern British Columbia into one of Western Canada's respected heavy civil contractors, with exciting future developments underway.
You'll work directly with senior leadership.
You'll influence meaningful decisions.
You'll have the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the way our company operates for years to come.
If you're energized by growth, continuous improvement, and helping build a company that's still writing its story, we'd like to meet you.
