We are looking for a Registered Veterinary Technologist (casual) to join our team.
Position Profile:
The Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) plays a critical role in the care, rehabilitation, and medical treatment of injured, sick, or orphaned wild animals. This position supports the veterinary care of various wildlife species, assisting with diagnostics, treatments, and the overall health and recovery of patients admitted to our Wildlife Hospital. The RVT will work closely with our rehabilitation staff, volunteers, and other professionals to ensure the highest standards of animal care and welfare are achieved and maintained. We are looking for someone who has flexibility to dedicate small blocks of time on an as-needed basis.
Position Type: Casual work with shifts (outside of emergencies) scheduled in advance. Additional call-ins likely during peak season (April-Sept).
Compensation: $27.00 - $29.00 hourly based on experience
Work Environment: Dynamic environment, which includes both indoor and outdoor settings.

Established in 1979, Wildlife Rescue Association of BC is a leader in the rehabilitation of wild animals and is committed to educating the public on how to coexist peacefully with wildlife. Located in Burnaby, BC, we are western Canada’s busiest wildlife rehabilitation centre, with approximately 5,000 patients admitted each year. Our facility is open 365 days a year, providing care for wild birds, bats, reptiles and amphibians.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform physical examinations of new wildlife patients and determine appropriate care plans.
- Collect biological samples and assist with diagnostic testing for wildlife patients.
- Administer medications, wound care and treatments.
- Assess patient progress and provide appropriate care including fluid therapy, wound care, and nutritional support.
- Safely handle and restrain wildlife of varying species, ensuring the safety of both the animal and personnel.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational standards.
- Supervise and support in the development of volunteers.
Key Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or certification from an accredited veterinary technologist program
- 2+ years of experience as an RVT preferred, preferably with wildlife or exotic animal medicine. Strong newer grads with relevant experience encouraged to apply.
- Experience handling birds and other species including mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.
- Proficient in standard veterinary medical procedures, including anesthesia monitoring and laboratory work.
- Strong understanding of animal behavior and the ability to handle wildlife safely.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays (no overnight shifts)
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of native wildlife in BC, particularly the Lower Mainland region, an asset

Note:
- All candidates must be willing to submit proof of current tetanus vaccination and to obtain a criminal record check as per Wildlife Rescue policy. Rabies vaccination with up-to-date serology is a requirement to work with bats.
