Job Summary:
We are looking for a hands-on Network Administrator to design, deploy, and maintain our enterprise network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a solid background with Cisco switches, Fortinet FortiGate firewalls, FortiClient VPN, and wireless access point deployment and management. You will ensure secure, reliable connectivity across on-premises, remote sites, and remote workers, and collaborate with security and IT operations teams.
Responsibilities:
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco switches (Cisco IOS/IOS-XE), including VLANs, trunking, spanning-tree, QoS, ACLs, and port security.
- Design and maintain network topology, routing (static and dynamic), and inter-VLAN routing; assist with core/distribution/access layer optimization.
- Deploy, configure, and monitor Fortinet FortiGate firewalls, including VPNs (IPsec and SSL), firewall policies, NAT, UTM features, and high-availability pairings.
- Implement and manage FortiClient VPN for remote users and site-to-site VPN as needed; enforce secure remote access and MFA where applicable.
- Plan and execute wireless network design and deployment (APs, SSIDs, security settings, RF planning, channel optimization, and roaming).
- Monitor network performance, perform capacity planning, and troubleshoot connectivity issues across LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless environments.
- Implement and enforce network security best practices: access control, segmentation, hardening, firewall rules, and regular audits.
- Automate routine network tasks with scripting (PowerShell, Python, or Ansible) and leverage network management tools for inventory, configuration management, and backup.
- Maintain network documentation, change management, and runbooks; participate in incident response and post-incident reviews.
- Collaborate with security, cloud, and systems teams to support hybrid and remote access architectures.
Qualifications:
- Certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Fortinet NSE 4/5, or other relevant vendor certifications.
- Experience with FortiGate firewall policies, VPNs, and high availability or FortiGate with SD-WAN features.
- Experience in site deployments, voice/video traffic handling, and QoS design.
- Knowledge of cloud networking (Azure/AWS) and hybrid connectivity concepts.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1-2 years proven experience as a network administrator or in a similar role.
- Mining experience highly desirable.
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Site located at Bernic Lake, MB: must be able to reliably commute to site and commute from Lac du Bonnet, MB or surrounding communities. (required)
