Abatement / Demolition Worker Key Responsibilities
- Perform asbestos abatement and selective demolition work in accordance with project requirements.
- Set up and dismantle containment systems, decontamination facilities, and negative air equipment.
- Safely remove asbestos-containing materials using approved procedures and equipment.
- Carry out demolition work while minimizing dust and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, HEPA vacuums, and other abatement equipment.
- Package, label, and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Follow all WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, including Part 6 – Asbestos.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site.
- Work closely with supervisors and team members to complete projects safely and efficiently.
- Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators.
Qualifications
- Experience in asbestos abatement, demolition, construction, or a related field is an asset.
- Knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and safe work practices is preferred.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and wearing respiratory protection.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Valid BC driver's license is an asset.
- Level 2, or 3 Asbestos Abatement Certification (or equivalent) is an asset.
- WHMIS and Occupational First Aid certifications are an asset.
