The Ministry of Highways, Safety & Environment Resource Branch is seeking an innovative, responsible, and motivated Field Trainer. The position will be based in the Southern Region Operations area and work all across the associated regional area South Region. The position will be based out of one of the available and approved working locations nearest the successful candidate. Approved locations are Regina, Swift Current, Cadillac, Leader, Maple Creek, Estevan, Moosomin and Weyburn. You will work with the Safety & Environment Resource Branch to achieve ministry goals in addition to the overall goal of Mission Zero. Reporting to the Safety Training Manager, you will bring strong working relationships from within the Region, public relations and interpersonal skills. This is a safety-sensitive position which requires a person with established safe working behaviours and a good safety record. Core responsibilities will include:
- Help, coordinate and conduct training programs utilizing adult learning techniques, and evaluate the competency of participants;
- Conduct equipment orientation and one-on-one practical training, which includes testing and evaluating to ensure operator competencies in the safe operation and maintenance of a variety of light and heavy equipment;
- Supports classroom instruction of defensive driving practices through practical training;
- Assists with the development and implementation of training courses, manuals and evaluation documentation for use in the classroom, employee orientation, and field instruction related to equipment operation as well as related work processes;
- Under the guidance of the Safety Training Manager, conducts follow-up evaluations to assess the effectiveness of the training programs on operator skill levels and to ensure compliance and due diligence;
- Document and maintain current training records in PSC Learn for all regional personnel;
- Participates in training sessions offered by vehicle and equipment factory representatives;
- Supports and promotes a safe and positive workplace culture through a variety of initiatives and activities; and
- Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees and the general public in accordance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, Highway Traffic Act and the Ministry of Highways Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures.

To qualify for this position, you will possess the following:
- Grade 12 and 5 years experience as a heavy equipment operator;
- Experience in all Ministry road maintenance operations and construction work activities and the related equipment and operator requirements including snowplow and wing;
- Ministry Specific Equipment Competency (Tandem Truck with PWS, Packer, Tractor, Loader & Grader);
- Competency Flag person and Work Zone Traffic Accommodation Certificate;
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan class 1A driver’s license with a clean driving record;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively; orally, including in public speaking, and in writing;
- Supervising or Experience training or mentoring employees in MoH equipment and tasks would be an asset;
- Safety related experience, OHS Rep, OHS L1/2 or safety certifications would be an asset;
- Certification as a Power Mobile Equipment Evaluator would be an asset;
- Knowledge of adult education methodology as would normally be attained through an equipment evaluator program which includes demonstrated ability to coordinate and conduct training programs utilizing adult learning techniques, and evaluate the competency of participants;
- Not having been deemed at fault for a preventable MoH incident;
- Strong working relationships from within the Region and interpersonal skills; and
- Basic knowledge of word processing, database, power point and spreadsheet software.
Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be acquired through experience as an equipment operator, Lead hand, or similar experience. The successful candidate would be required to obtain instructor (Train the Trainer TTT) status for numerous courses/training offered by the Ministry, within the probationary period. Successful completion of a recognized Powered Mobile Equipment (PME) Safety Evaluator Certification, “Train the Trainer” and “Basic Training Techniques” program will be mandatory.
Travel Required: Approximately 60% – 75% of the time within the province.
