About this role
MGB Building Group builds and renovates high-end custom homes across Toronto and the GTA. We're looking for a residential carpenter with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in framing, finishing and renovation work — someone who has worked inside older Toronto homes, knows how to read drawings, and can execute precise structural work without constant supervision.
This is a full-time, subcontractor position suited to an experienced carpenter who is ready to take ownership of their work on-site. If you've spent most of your career on large commercial builds or new tract housing, this role likely isn't the right fit.
Who this is for: Carpenters who've done full gut renovations, structural additions, and complex framing on residential properties — ideally older Toronto-area homes with the quirks that come with them. Bonus points if you've led or coordinated a framing crew before.
What you'll do
- Frame walls, floors, roofs, and structural components on custom residential builds and full gut renovations
- Read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and site plans accurately and independently
- Cut, shape, and assemble materials using hand tools, power tools, and framing equipment
- Perform layout, squaring, shoring, and bracing to code and MGB quality standards
- Coordinate with other trades and site supervisors to keep projects on schedule
- Maintain a safe, organized job site and flag any material shortages or design issues promptly
What we're looking for
- 5–10 years of residential carpentry experience — framing, structural, and/or finish work
- Direct experience working on older Toronto-area homes and full interior gut renovations or additions
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and residential framing standards
- Ability to read construction drawings and work independently with minimal direction
- Experience leading or coordinating a framing crew is a strong asset
- Proficient with all standard carpentry tools (circular saws, nail guns, levels, squares, etc.)
- Valid G driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle — required
- Punctual, dependable, and takes pride in the quality of their work
