We are building the ownership infrastructure for collectibles — a unified system that connects data, provenance, and assets across the entire ecosystem, bringing together grading records, certifications, and market information into one seamless platform. Overview
We’re looking for a talented Backend Engineer (Mid–Senior) with a strong foundation in infrastructure to join our founding team. This is a full-time, permanent position that contains a hybrid work schedule in our Richmond office. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys building scalable systems from the ground up and thrives in a fast-paced startup environment.
You’ll play a key role in designing and developing the backend architecture that powers our platform, ensuring reliability, performance, and security as we grow. Working closely with product, design, and frontend teams, you’ll help bring a category-defining collectibles marketplace to life.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems and APIs supporting web and mobile applications
- Architect and manage cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and security
- Collaborate with frontend engineers and designers to deliver seamless, end-to-end product experiences
- Optimize system performance, reliability, and cost efficiency through monitoring and continuous improvement
- Implement best practices in DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code
- Contribute to technical strategy, system design decisions, and engineering best practices
- Debug and resolve production issues, ensuring system stability and uptime
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, preferred Master’s degree
- 4–8+ years of experience in backend development or related fields
- Strong experience building and scaling distributed systems and APIs
- Hands-on experience with AWS is preferred
- Experience working in cross-functional teams in agile environments
Required Skills
- Proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Node.js, Python, Go, C#, or Java)
- Experience with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL) and data modelling
- Familiarity with microservices architecture and RESTful APIs
- Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes)
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Skills
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi)
- Knowledge of observability tools (monitoring, logging, tracing)
- Experience building or scaling marketplace or consumer-facing platforms
- Interest in collectibles, marketplaces, or consumer products

Pay: $90,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
