Job Description:
The Night Shift Supervisor oversees all aspects of plant production, including receiving, pre-staging, pickling, galvanizing, finishing, and shipping of steel products. This role entails managing production lines, optimizing workforce efficiency, and ensuring the smooth operation of galvanizing processes. The incumbent is also responsible for enforcing company policies, conducting disciplinary actions, and fostering a culture of safety, quality, and productivity within the workforce.
Essential Functions:
1. Supervision and Team Leadership:
· Effectively manage and lead a team of production workers, providing clear guidance and support.
· Foster a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
· As part of supervisory responsibilities, must be available to cover weekend shifts as required to ensure consistent leadership presence and support operational continuity.
· Maintain Supervisor Daily Logbook to develop employees.
2. Quality Control:
· Collaborate with production manager and other management personnel to establish production and quality control standards, quantity, specifications, and delivery dates for customer's galvanized steel shipments.
· Conduct regular inspections and maintain the highest level of product quality.
3. Safety Oversight:
· Champion safety protocols and procedures to minimize workplace accidents.
· Investigate and report safety violations, ensuring corrective actions are taken.
· Enter Safety contacts, report hazards in EHS Software (Intelex, ensure Toolbox talks are carried out).
· Responsible for incident reporting to management and to work care, if required.
4. Training and Development:
· Train new employees in production procedures, safety guidelines, and equipment operation.
· Provide ongoing coaching and development opportunities to enhance team skills.
5. Production Planning:
· Collaborate in planning production schedules and resource allocation to meet customer demands efficiently.
· Coordinate production activities between shifts and departments, such as quality control, shipping/receiving, and maintenance, to optimize production and personnel and equipment utilization.
6. Inventory Management:
· Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure adequate supplies for production without unnecessary waste.
7. Cost Control:
· Implement strategies to optimize resource utilization and minimize waste, contributing to cost-effective production.
8. Disciplinary Actions:
· Participate in disciplinary actions, in accordance with company policies and procedures, when necessary to address performance or behavior issues.
· Ensuring fairness and consistency in applying disciplinary measures.
9. Reporting and Documentation:
· Complete Daily Production reports, and Leader Standard work.
· Work on other reports on production metrics, performance, and relevant data, as required by the company.
· Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes and incidents for management review.
10. Other:
· As required perform adjustments on cranes – skate change, brush adjust, fuse change.
· Collaborate with other departments to identify and implement process improvements and quality enhancements.
· Establish clear operational objectives and monitor progress through the performance management program to ensure all shift targets are consistently met or exceeded.
Other Skills and Abilities:
· In-depth knowledge of galvanizing, pickling, finishing, and preparation processes.
· Expertise in operating material handling equipment used in galvanizing.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
· Complete all training as required by the Company.
· Forklift license required.
· Lockout/Tagout
· Manlift operation.
Qualifications:

· Proven supervisory experience in a manufacturing or galvanizing environment.
· Strong understanding of galvanizing processes and safety regulations.
· Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

· Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting.
· Good understanding of VCC Max and basic understanding of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
· Perform disciplinary functions as required.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Employee Relations Skills:
Interpret, administer, and enforce company policies and work rules for all employees.
Reasoning Ability:
Study, understand, and comprehend technical applications for galvanizing and coatings processes.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
Language Skills:
Read, comprehend instructions, and effectively present information to employees.
Overtime:
The Supervisor is responsible for covering shifts during overtime when required to ensure the smooth operation of the plant. However, it is important to note that overtime hours will be shared between all Shift Supervisors. Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to spend up to 6 hours on the plant floor to support operations and requires walking, standing, twisting, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, sweeping, shoveling, and lifting. Lifting requirements include lifting various sized and shaped material from waist to chest height. Some floor to chest and overhead lifting required. The weight range required for lifting is up to 50 pounds. Work 8.5 hours up to 10 hours per day, 5 days per week and overtime as needed.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside work, sometimes working in an unheated building, in various temperature and weather conditions. Vapors and fumes expelled from various process tanks, Sulphuric acid, zinc ammonium chloride, zinc and chromate quench, may be irritant at times. However they are well within their regulatory limits.
Hours of work:
8.5 Hours per day. Shift handoff is to be completed with incoming supervisor and outgoing supervisor during the start and end of shift overlap.
Personal Protective Equipment:
The employee will be required to wear all safety equipment as mandated by Company Safety Policies.
Safety Requirements:
The employee must comply with all health and safety policies and programs enforced by the Company. Employee should be aware of rules and regulations around JHSC and its members, additionally understand the environment they will be working in and potential hazards within it. Pay: $69,000.00-$72,000.00 per year
