This position is located at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery & Funeral Home in Markham. This role provides the right person with an opportunity to apply their knowledge and experience in property management and team leadership in a rewarding environment as part of a management team working to deliver compassionate care for the families we serve.
The Job:
- plan, co-ordinate and supervise Cemetery grounds team and overall cemetery operations to ensure that all interments and cremations are prepared, set-up and completed as per policies and procedures.
- ensuring the maintenance of our cemetery property which includes mausoleums, satellite cemeteries and an on-site funeral home; may include dealing with on-site subcontractors
- manage various landscaping projects in and around buildings, structures, monuments and roadways
- supervise maintenance tasks such as the framing, pouring and installation of concrete memorial foundations, the installation of bronze/granite markers, pictures, wreaths, and other memorialization items as required.
- assure the Health and Safety of employees and visitors
- other tasks include: assist in developing and updating modified workplans, training employees, maintaining inventory of supplies and materials, monitoring the use and maintenance of cemetery vehicles and equipment, coordinating annual special events to CCFS standards
- completing daily, monthly and regular administrative tasks including assistance with expenses and project budgeting.

The Person:

- strong communication, time management, interpersonal, customer service, problem solving, detail oriented, computer literate, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Previous bereavement experience, knowledge of cemetery and crematorium operations or willingness to learn.
- Knowledge and/or experience of vehicles and equipment which may include, but not limited to landscaping equipment, landscape trailers, backhoes, utility vehicles, casket lifts, lowering devices, etc. is preferred.
- Mechanical orientation, property / operations management experience and/or general construction knowledge.
- A minimum of 5 years of previous supervisory experience is required.
- Experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
- A valid Ontario G Driver’s License in good standing
- A clear Police Clearance Record
- Post secondary school education is preferred
