This role focuses on designing, building, repairing, and maintaining custom tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to support production.
Position Summary
The Tool and Die Maker / General Machinist (Manual & CNC) is responsible for fabricating and repairing precision tools, molds, and machine components. This role requires setting up and operating a wide range of manual (lathes, mills, grinders) and CNC machinery, programming CNC equipment, and performing preventative maintenance to ensure machinery remains in peak condition.
Key Responsibilities
1. Tool & Die Making and Repair
Design & Build: Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD data to build new custom tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
Repair & Modify: Repair, modify, and troubleshoot broken or worn-out dies and tools, ensuring they are restored to high-precision specifications.
Fitting: Assemble, disassemble, file, grind, and shim components to ensure proper function.
Test: Test completed tools and dies to verify they operate correctly and produce parts within tolerance.
2. CNC and Manual Machining
CNC Operation/Programming: Set up and operate CNC machines (mills, lathes, grinders) and create/edit CNC code (G-code/M-code) using CAM software (e.g., Mastercam).
Manual Machining: Set up and operate conventional machines (lathes, mills, surface grinders) to shape, turn, and drill precision parts.
Precision Work: Achieve Required tolerances
Material Prep: Cut raw materials (metals, alloys, plastics) to size and lay out workpieces for machining.
3. Machine Maintenance & Shop Support
Preventative Maintenance (PM): Perform routine maintenance, such as cleaning, lubricating, and repairing machine tools.
Troubleshooting: Analyze and solve mechanical issues on equipment.
