PNJ is looking for a motivated individual with experience in various aspects of construction material testing. The qualified candidate should have a minimum of 1-2 years of on-site concrete testing, asphalt and soils compaction testing, asphalt and concrete coring of various structurers, basic subgrade inspection experience, asphalt paving monitoring experience, Rebar Inspection, and more.
As an intermediate field technician, you will be responsible for collecting all site data, interpreting the results, and compiling a report that is clear, and concise. In addition, you are required to be fluent in English with good speaking and writing skills as you will have to verbally communicate, advise, or write reports on site with our clients.
As an Engineering Technician, you will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- On-site concrete testing of ready mix concrete or grout for Slump, Air Content, Temperature, and casting of compressive strength cylinders.
- Coring of typical concrete structures (curbs or sidewalks) and mass concrete structures (abutments, bridge decks, parapet walls) on horizontal and vertical surfaces.
- Asphalt and soils compaction testing by Nuclear Gauge method for private, municipal, and MTO projects.
- Coring of flexible asphalt pavements for Quality Assurance/Quality Control for determining compaction and mix properties.
- Inspect subgrade conditions, propose remedial action, and write a Subgrade Inspection Report.
- Assist engineers with basic geotechnical field investigations.
- Monitor paving operations on municipal or MTO contracts with respect to verification of material paved, temperatures, lift thicknesses, equipment used, tack coat application, surface deficiencies, and reporting of any concerns to the client while on site.
- Transporting the required equipment in your personal vehicle or company provided vehicle, depending on equipment.
- Tracking time and mileage accurately for daily completion of time sheets and mileage expense reports.
- Writing legible and factual reports on site to present to the client and the field office.
- Comfortable with operating a portable Nuclear Density Gauge for compaction testing and follow all safety procedures.
Qualifications
The right candidate must have the following qualifications before applying:
- A valid G drivers license.
- Capable of driving cars, trucks, cube vans to and from construction sites.
- Must have your own vehicle which you can use to frequent construction sites and carry the various equipment required to perform your duties.
- CCIL/CSA or ACI Certification to test concrete is a must.
- Have knowledge of the use of a Portable Nuclear Densometer and transportation regulations under Class 7 Radioactive materials.
- Have a good understanding of the English language and be able to write grammatically correct reports on site for the client.
- Be proactive and have good sound judgement in a solo or team environment.
- Keep lines of communication open with management at all times.
- Represent the company on a professional level and make decisions in line with company policies.
