Overview: Kiwassa Neighbourhood House grows a welcoming and inclusive community in the vibrant Hastings-Sunrise and Grandview-Woodland neighbourhoods of East Vancouver, Located on the traditional, unceded and occupied territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səlílw̓ ətaʔ/Selilwitulh (TsleilWaututh), and xʷməθkwəyə̓ m (Musqueam) Nations.
Job Summary: The Preteen Team Lead supports Kiwassa’s vision to grow a welcoming and inclusive community through building safe and engaging spaces to learn and grow. The Team Lead supports planning and implementing activities as well as organizing staff for a multicultural, inclusive drop-in program for preteens aged 10-12. The Preteen Team Lead is also responsible for community connection and outreach, to ensure that preteens in the Hastings-Sunrise community are actively engaged in programming. This position will be 30 hours per week during the year (6 hours per day Monday to Friday), and 35 hours during breaks (Spring and Summer camps).
Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with program coordinator to build this preteen program, currently not operating

Plans and implements activities and experiences for individual and group needs of preteens with consideration for multicultural, inclusive, child-centered and developmentally appropriate activities.

Organizes supplies and maintains supplies necessary for running a successful program.

Oversees the day-to-day operation of the program by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered to, and program standards are met.

Support coordinator with registration and onboarding through Lillio

Work with the Community Schools Team to promote programming and onboard preteens living in the community

Build a Preteen panel as consultation and support for program development

Stay up to date with new techniques and activities, collaborates with their supervisor to implement innovative and appropriate activities to engage participants.

Orients, trains, monitors and provides support to program volunteers.

Works together with team members to create a quality, enriching learning environment for preteens.

Strengthening family engagement and improving caregivers’ understanding of youth health, safety, and behaviour

Maintains relationships with external resources, school and KNH staff members.

Maintains open communication with families regarding attendance, pick up and drop off, and any behavioural concerns.

Foster a safe, inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive environment for preteens, specifically newcomer preteens and those facing systemic barriers through consistent routines and caring adult relationships

Build a strong sense of belonging and positive identity through daily programming, leadership opportunities, workshops, and mentorship

Strengthen continuity of care from Kiwassa’s Out-of-School Care programs into preteen years

Administers medication and responds to emergencies in accordance with established policies and guidelines.

Upholds safety standards as per Kiwassa requirements.

Ensures that all policies and procedures pertaining to the facility are followed.

Implements a solution-oriented approach to barriers.

Maintains program and participant records

Provides updates and reporting as required.

Other duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationships
The position reports to the Childcare and Youth Manager and the Out of School Care Coordinator. The Team Lead will work with a team of 1 to 3 additional after school care staff.
Qualifications:
Education and Knowledge

Diploma in a related human/social service field or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Early Childhood Educator Certificate an asset
Training and Experience
-
Two years recent experience working in the childcare/youth sector

Emergency Childcare First Aid or ability to obtain during the first 3 months of employment

Criminal Record Check

As per the Child Care Licensing Regulation, applicants must be 19 years of age or older

Salary: $27.17/per hour plus any applicable Wage Enhancement
