Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Truck Shop Manager to lead and oversee our busy truck maintenance and repair facility. This role is vital in ensuring the efficient operation of heavy equipment, commercial trucks, and industrial machinery. As a key leader, you will coordinate daily shop activities, manage a skilled team of technicians, and uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer service. Your expertise will drive operational excellence and ensure our fleet remains reliable and ready for action.
Key Responsibilities Shop Operations Management
- Oversee all truck and trailer repair and maintenance activities.
- Plan, prioritize, and schedule daily shop workloads.
- Ensure all preventive maintenance programs are completed on schedule.
- Supervise mechanics, apprentices, welders, tire technicians, and shop staff.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, and productivity.
- Ensure repairs comply with Ministry of Transportation (MTO), CVOR, DOT, and company safety standards.
- Monitor shop efficiency, turnaround times, and technician productivity.
- Conduct quality inspections before equipment is released.
- Coordinate emergency roadside repairs when required.
Fleet Maintenance
- Manage preventive maintenance schedules for company trucks and trailers.
- Monitor equipment downtime and identify improvement opportunities.
- Review repair histories and recommend equipment replacements.
- Reduce maintenance costs while maintaining safety and reliability.
- Ensure all inspections and certifications remain current.
Business Development
- Develop and implement strategies to attract outside customers.
- Build relationships with:
- Transportation companies
- Owner-operators
- Fleet owners
- Leasing companies
- Equipment rental companies
- Municipal and commercial fleets
- Promote shop services including:
- Preventive maintenance
- Annual inspections
- Safety inspections
- Trailer repairs

- Refrigeration trailer support (if applicable)
- Prepare quotations and negotiate repair contracts.
- Increase external repair revenue through marketing and customer engagement.

Customer Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external repair customers.
- Prepare accurate estimates and repair timelines.
- Maintain excellent customer satisfaction.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally.
- Follow up with customers after repairs to ensure satisfaction.
Inventory & Purchasing
- Manage shop inventory and parts availability.
- Source quality parts at competitive prices.
- Maintain vendor relationships.
- Control inventory costs and minimize waste.
- Approve purchase orders within company limits.
Financial Management
- Prepare annual shop budgets.
- Monitor labour efficiency and repair profitability.
- Control operating expenses.
- Review invoices for accuracy.
- Prepare monthly performance reports.
- Identify opportunities to increase revenue and reduce costs.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all workplace safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop.
- Conduct regular safety meetings.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and shop equipment.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in truck and trailer maintenance.
- Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of:
- Heavy-duty trucks
- Dry vans
- Flatbeds
- Refrigerated trailers
- Hydraulic systems
- Air brake systems

- Diagnostics
- Experience managing technicians and shop operations.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Proven business development or sales experience within the trucking or heavy equipment industry is a strong asset.
- Ability to read repair manuals, technical drawings, and maintenance documentation.
- Valid driver's licence (AZ/DZ licence is considered an asset).
