Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Care Manager/Registered Nurse, the Health Care Aide within the mission, philosophy and goals of the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre, is responsible for the delivery of personal care. Care must be delivered in accordance with the Centre’s policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Team Functions, Human & Fiscal Resources:
· Follows the resident care plan and assignments as directed by the Registered Nurse/ LPN
· Cooperates with and participates in the interdisciplinary team
· Serves as unit representative on committees as required
· Participates in and promotes continuous quality improvement in all aspects of care services and responsibilities
· Relays departmental concerns to appropriate leader
· Carries out routine cleaning of shared and resident’s personal equipment as per schedules
· Uses care and economy with respect to materials, equipment, supplies and resources
· Carries out responsibilities in an efficient, collaborative, cooperative manner
Resident Personal Care:
· Provides input into the development of care plans and provides information to keep plans current
· Performs all personal care functions including mealtime assistance and routine hydration
· Reports changes and new problems to team leader promptly.
· Assists with completion of unusual incident forms when involved.
Additional Duties:
· Perform additional responsibilities as required to support the overall goals and operations of Allen Gray
Professional Development:
· Participates in in-service and mandatory education programs
· Completes required annual competency testing
· Seeks formal upgrading of person care/service aide skills
Qualifications:
· Graduate of a recognized Health Care Aide Program or successful competency testing and registered with the Health Care Registry
· Intermediate computer skills
· Prior work experience working with seniors is preferred.
· Must be an individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced setting.
· Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
· Must be able to maintain a high degree of accuracy under stress.
· Must have excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
· Must have a Criminal Records check completed.
· Must have up to date immunizations record.
