Metals Division Manager Duties & Responsibilities
- Developing a construction budget for the division in conjunction with the Metals PM
- Assist project managers and supervisors to ensure successful project profitability in shop.
- Preparing a cost-effective plan and maintaining a schedule for successful completion of the project.
- Relentless attention to the needs of the construction schedule and ensuring the metals scope meets these requirements.
- Division project management and completion of monthly reporting.
- Manage CWB W59 47.1, 47.2 Certification
- Selecting suppliers, sub-trades and obtaining quotations.
- Negotiating and clarifying scope of work with sub-trades and suppliers.
- Manage, create and modify as required AutoCAD drawings/designs as per the requirements of existing and new projects.
- Estimating.
- Orderly management of Project Management Software.
- Document control.
- Involvement in implementing and updating QA/QC in shop projects.
- Preparing estimates, quotations and purchase orders for projects as required or requested by the Metals PM.
- Ordering of material to ensure a steady flow of work in the Division.
- Tracking deliveries of critical materials and updating the Project Manager.
- Playing a significant role in long term planning, including development of initiatives geared towards increased efficiencies in the division.
- Development of employees within the division.
- Identify current and future resources in conjunction with the Human Resources Department.
- Manage employees for fabrication of misc. metals - maximize productivity of metals staff by communicating targets, accountabilities and expectations.
- Ensure timely and adequate provision of resources.
- Other related duties as required.
Competencies:
- Proven skills in quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimating techniques, and able to complete the entire bid from initiation to completion of the tender form in a timely manner.
- Strong comprehension of contract language
- Strong conceptual, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- A high degree of accuracy in numerical calculations and estimates.
- Demonstrated skills in planning, documentation and time management.
- Ability to function effectively when working within strict time limits
- Demonstrated understanding of construction engineering processes and ability to "see" beyond the plans and specifications.
- Capable of reading and understanding construction drawings and documents.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to effectively problem solve and take decisive action within the limits of authority.
- Excellent communicator, able to communicate accurately and in a professional manner as well as to maintain open and honest communication.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and innovation and can go beyond immediate assignments and act on opportunities.
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to address and resolve conflicts while initiating strategies to manage conflict to reach the best solution for the organization.
- Ability to work as part of a team and promote an environment that encourages employees to work together.
- Ability to take a proactive stance as it relates to Health and Safety.
- Additional assignments as required and directed by senior management.

- Emphasizing site safety in accordance with regulatory requirements as well as our corporate Health & Safety Policy.
- Provide leadership and setting an example with regards to the Health and Safety program of Baseline Constructors Inc.
Working Conditions
- Most of the work is carried out in an office/shop environment.
- Exposure to a construction/shop environment including inclement weather, loud noises and machinery.
- Travel can be required.
- Critical position with high demands.
