Print and Large-Format Sign Production Specialist is a hybrid creative and technical role. This specialist handles the full product lifecycle: designing the graphic concepts, preparing files, operating large-format machinery, and executing physical installation. The primary job responsibilities are divided into distinct operational areas:Graphic Design & Pre-Press
- Create original design layouts for large-format applications, including vehicle wraps, storefront windows, monument signs, trade show displays, and banners.
- Consult directly with clients to interpret their branding requirements, pitch visual concepts, and secure formal design approvals.
- Prepare print-ready vector files by managing scale ratios, bleed margins, cut contour paths, and high-resolution image compression.
- Calibrate color management profiles to translate digital designs accurately into physical CMYK, Pantone spot colors, or white ink layers.
Print & Sign Production
- Set up and operate machinery, including eco-solvent, UV-curable, and latex large-format flatbed and roll-to-roll printers.
- Program and manage digital cutters and CNC routers to precisely trim rigid materials like PVC, acrylic, foam core, and aluminum composite.
- Execute post-print finishing work, including custom lamination, banner grommeting, board mounting, canvas stretching, and vinyl weeding.
- Maintain production equipment through daily printhead cleaning, nozzle checks, machine calibration, and troubleshooting error codes.
Installation & Site Assessment
- Perform on-site measurements and structural inspections to confirm size, hardware requirements, and compliance with local sign codes before production.
- Install completed signage on-site, applying vinyl graphics to vehicles, walls, and glass, and mounting rigid exterior or interior signs safely.
- Adhere to safety regulations when working with power tools, ladders, scaffolding, and chemical adhesives.
Project & Inventory Management
- Manage the production workflow calendar to prioritize rush orders, balance design time with machine runtime, and meet strict client deadlines.
- Monitor and order shop inventory including rolls of vinyl, over-laminates, rigid substrates, inks, banner hardware, and installation tools.
- Generate project cost estimates and track actual material usage to ensure jobs stay profitable and within budget.
