Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Automation Engineer with experience in robotic weld cell systems to support, improve, and optimize automated manufacturing processes within a heavy industrial environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, troubleshooting, commissioning, and maintaining automated welding equipment, robotic systems, PLCs, and associated controls infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, troubleshoot, and support automated weld cell systems and related controls.
- Program and maintain PLCs, HMIs, robotic systems, and automation networks.
- Support robotic welding applications including setup, optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, robotic, and controls-related issues in production equipment.
- Improve equipment uptime, cycle times, quality performance, and overall process efficiency.
- Lead automation upgrades, continuous improvement projects, and equipment commissioning activities.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Develop and maintain electrical drawings, control schematics, and technical documentation.
- Ensure all automation systems comply with applicable safety standards and company procedures.
- Assist with preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for automated equipment.
- Support new equipment installations and startup activities.
- Provide technical guidance and training to maintenance and operations personnel.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in industrial automation within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with robotic weld cells and automated welding systems is required.
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent).
- Experience with robotic systems such as FANUC, ABB, or Motoman preferred.
- Familiarity with HMI systems, VFDs, servo controls, and industrial communication networks.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of industrial safety standards and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
- Experience in steel manufacturing, automotive, or heavy industrial environments considered an asset.

Working Conditions

Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
