Job Summary
The Survey Technologist-Coordinator plays a critical role in the successful execution of our civil infrastructure and mining projects. This hybrid position balances survey project coordination with construction layout. You will bridge the gap between the field survey team and the project management office to ensure site layouts, quantity takeoffs, and project quantities and schedules are accurate, well-documented, and aligned with Nova Construction Co. Ltd. standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination Duties:
- Maintain, organize, and update project survey files,
- Maintain equipment, tools, and software, ensuring they are in good working condition and up to date,
- Review[BW1] and comprehend project drawings and specifications,
- Review and fine-tune [BW2] third party surface data (3D linework and surface files)[BW3] to ensure field operations are productive,
- Design and drafting and input of survey information, with an ability to field-fit to accommodate constructability when discrepancies arise,
- Utilize survey equipment to collect and check information onsite,
- Collect and analyze data to create accurate as built and design drafts,
- Track site activities against project schedules and generate progress reports,
- Assist in the change management process by tracking field revisions and contributing to Request for Information (RFI) documentation,
- Coordinate internally and with clients, subcontractors, and engineering consultants to resolve field technical issues and ensure proper model/drawing distributions,
- Quantity surveying and estimating tasks.
Field Survey Duties as Required:
- Ensure strict adherence to provincial safety regulations and quality assurance programs on-site,
- Perform construction layout, staking, and as-built surveying for civil, site prep, and infrastructure projects utilizing modern survey equipment,
- Establish, verify, and maintain primary site controls (horizontal and vertical),
- Operate and maintain survey equipment including GPS (RTK), Robotic Total Stations,
- Conduct volume calculations and topographic surveys to determine earthwork quantities for operations and progress tracking.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Civil/Geomatics Engineering Technology, Civil /Geomatics Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field,
- Experience supporting heavy civil construction, roadbuilding, paving and mining preferred, specifically pertaining to machine control and survey software,
- 2–5 years of progressive experience in construction surveying and/or project coordination,
- Strong technical proficiency with modern surveying software and hardware (e.g., GPS, Total Stations, AutoCAD with Carlson Civil and Survey Suite,
· Familiar with RPAS-based surveying i.e. Photogrammetry and LiDAR. RPAS Pilot Certificate - Small Basic (or Advanced) License would be an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, MS Project),
- Previous experience estimating and using B2W would be an asset,
- Strong mathematical and spatial reasoning skills (e.g., knowledge of geometry and trigonometry for spatial calculations),
- Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills to juggle multiple priorities across different job sites,
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License and a clean abstract (occasional travel to job sites across the region maybe required).
