Position purpose
The Engagement Program Specialist plans and delivers stakeholder engagement and consultation initiatives that help Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) understand member and industry needs, strengthen relationships and deliver on approved strategic priorities. Working under the direction of the Engagement Program Manager, this role provides advanced technical expertise in engagement planning and facilitation, builds trusted working relationships with members and industry partners, and coordinates enterprise engagement initiatives, including conference programming.
The Specialist plans and facilitates consultation activities, analyzes stakeholder feedback, develops recommendations and supports consistent engagement practices by applying ACSA's engagement methodology, aligned with the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) Canada Spectrum.
Position level
Specialist role providing advanced expertise in stakeholder engagement and consultation. Works both independently and in partnership with the broader team within ACSA’s engagement methodology and contributes to enterprise engagement initiatives without direct people leadership. The role is non-managerial, exercising defined decision-making authority within established guidelines, and focuses on engagement design, facilitation, and analysis.
Duties and responsibilities
Stakeholder engagement & consultation

Plan and facilitate stakeholder engagement and consultation initiatives that support ACSA's strategic priorities and gather meaningful stakeholder input.

Define the decision to be informed, target participants, level of participation, methods, risks, timelines and success measures before engagement begins.

Map stakeholders and build trusted relationships with members, industry partners and other stakeholders, exercising sound judgment and professionalism in sensitive situations.

Identify emerging issues, opportunities and stakeholder insights, providing recommendations to the Engagement Program Manager.
Conference & enterprise initiatives

Coordinate conference programming under the direction of the Engagement Program Manager, including speaker identification, program development, stakeholder communications and delivery.

Manage day-to-day relationships with speakers, sponsors and other stakeholders connected to assigned activities.

Coordinate member engagement initiatives such as Crew Brew and other enterprise engagement activities.

Coordinate cross-functional special projects with defined scope, sequencing, accountabilities and timelines.

Track deliverables, dependencies, risks and decisions, escalating issues that require management direction.
Insights, analysis & closed-loop reporting

Develop practical data capture and analysis approaches for assigned engagement initiatives.

Analyze stakeholder feedback and engagement data to identify trends, themes, risks and opportunities that support evidence-based decision-making.

Prepare reports, recommendations and engagement summaries, including closed-loop reporting that communicates how stakeholder feedback informed decisions.

Evaluate engagement initiatives and recommend improvements to engagement approaches, participant experience and organizational processes.
Technical expertise & organizational support

Apply ACSA's stakeholder engagement methodology and support consistent engagement practices across assigned initiatives.

Provide technical guidance to colleagues on engagement planning, facilitation techniques and stakeholder participation.

Develop engagement materials, facilitation resources and tools that support effective consultation.

Work with Public Relations and Media on public-facing stakeholder communications while respecting the distinct responsibilities of each team.

Research emerging practices in stakeholder engagement, facilitation and public participation to support continuous improvement.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education:
-
Post-secondary degree in communications, public administration, public participation, planning, business or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Experience:
-
5+ years of progressive experience in stakeholder engagement, consultation and relationship management.

Demonstrated experience facilitating workshops, focus groups, advisory committees or consultation processes involving diverse stakeholder groups.

Demonstrated experience managing complex cross-functional projects involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.
-
Demonstrated experience analyzing stakeholder feedback and translating findings into practical recommendations.

Experience coordinating conferences, industry events or enterprise initiatives is considered an asset.

Demonstrated facilitation and consultation skills, including the ability to surface differing perspectives and support meaningful dialogue.

Excellent judgment, professionalism and diplomacy when managing sensitive stakeholder relationships and situations.

Strong analytical skills to synthesize qualitative and quantitative information into practical recommendations.

Proven project management skills, including scope control, sequencing, risk management and coordination across competing priorities and cross-functional initiatives.

Advanced written, editing and verbal communication skills, including preparing clear reports, presentations and stakeholder communications; knowledge of CP style is an asset.

Demonstrated ability to build collaborative working relationships across departments.

Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Asana and digital engagement platforms.

Knowledge of stakeholder engagement principles and experience applying engagement approaches aligned with the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) Canada Spectrum.
Logistics

This position requires a 40-hour work week.
-
Travel, evening and weekend work based on business events such as conferences, engagement activities and stakeholder meetings.

This role is eligible for ACSA’s hybrid work model (Edmonton office) three months after the start date.

Reporting to the Engagement Program Manager.
Salary: Starting at $85,000, depending on experience and qualifications
