Here we grow again! Community Roots continues to expand to meet service needs and find ourselves needing to add to our amazing support team. Seeking an applicant with an interest in supporting adults with disabilities to join a team of highly skilled support workers. Successful applicant will be fully orientated to all Community Roots programs and train with experienced staff members for 1-2 weeks. This position is great for individuals needing a flexible schedule.
Our focus at Community Roots Support Services is client centered; we work as a team to help provide our clients with the best support in helping achieve their goals and improving their overall quality of life.
As a Community Support Worker with Community Roots you will provide one-one-one support to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Support given is based on the individual’s needs and the goals they have set. Areas of support include, but are not limited to, community inclusion, education, employment, self-care, health & well-being, recreational activities, social activities and development of life skills. All meetings with clients are to be set by you and your client, based on what works for them, allowing for flexibility in your scheduled shifts. You will receive direction and support from our Team Lead, Manager, as well as peers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Participates in assessment, goal setting and program planning such as Personal Service Plans for individuals living independently and semi independently. Documents and implements the plan. Provides input into the evaluation of the program.
· Evaluates client needs and develops short term plans to meet such needs with the active participation of clients and their families.
· Assists clients to function more independently in their own homes and in the community. Assists clients with daily life skills, social skills and/or behaviour management. Teaches and assists clients with activities such as personal hygiene, basic cooking, money management, shopping, household safety, pet care. Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, social and vocational activities.
Requirements:
· Diploma or certificate in a field related to social services, or 1 year of relevant experience.
· BC Criminal Record Check Clearance Prior to start
· Valid Class 5 Drivers License and reliable vehicle
· Drivers Abstract Clearance
· Valid First Aid Certificate
· Currently living in the Greater Victoria Area, or able to commute (Victoria, Esquimalt, Langford, Colwood, View Royal, Saanich, Sooke, Sidney, etc)
Abilities and skills:
· Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate with a team
· Ability to keep focused and calm in challenging situations
· Good communication skills (both verbal and written)
