We are looking for a Dry End Assistant Superintendent to join our Paper Operations team at ANC in Whitecourt, AB. This role is critical to delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective performance across key Dry End assets of the paper machine. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong Superintendent-level leadership capability, a high degree of asset ownership, and the ability to translate strategic objectives into measurable operational results supporting mill-wide goals related to safety, quality, production, and cost control.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Provide day-to-day leadership and operational oversight for assigned Dry End assets, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
- Act as the asset owner for key Dry End systems, managing them with a full business ownership mindset aligned to overall mill strategy.
- Lead and develop the Asset Team through active engagement, coaching, and performance management.
- Ensure safety and quality are always prioritized ahead of production, actively reinforcing safe work practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on production optimization, machine runnability, reliability, and cost performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex operational and mechanical issues in real time to minimize downtime and maintain production targets.
- Understand and manage upstream and downstream impacts of Dry End decisions across the integrated mill.
- Challenge the status quo respectfully while taking full ownership and accountability for results.

What You Will Bring to the Role
- Experience leading high-performance teams on paper machines.
- In-depth knowledge of neutral printing and writing grades across a wide range of basis weights.
- Strong expertise in production optimization, machine efficiency, and runnability improvement.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex operational issues under real-time conditions.
- Post-secondary education as an Engineering Technologist or Engineering degree (Mechanical, Chemical, or Process Control), and/or equivalent industry experience with formal training.
- Broad understanding of integrated TMP paper mill operations, including pulping, stock preparation, wet end, dry end, and finishing operations.
