About the Clients:
We are seeking a compassionate caregiver to support an elderly couple navigating Alzheimer's and dementia at different stages. The husband is in the early stages with mild memory loss but remains fairly independent—he can still drive with a special license and manages most daily activities. The wife is in moderate stages of dementia and requires more extensive support with personal care, hygiene, and daily routines. The husband has been the primary caretaker but now needs additional help to ensure both parents receive proper care and maintain their quality of life.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the wife with personal hygiene including bathing, toileting, brushing teeth, and managing occasional bladder control issues
- Provide medication reminders and monitoring for both parents to ensure proper adherence
- Support with morning routines to help start the day on track, as mornings tend to be the most challenging time
- Encourage proper nutrition and assist with meal preparation or reheating as needed
- Provide cognitive support including memory prompts, redirection, and engagement activities
- Light housekeeping including cleaning and laundry
- Encourage physical activity such as short walks and cognitive engagement through games or conversation
- Provide companionship and emotional support to both parents
- Communicate regularly with family members about care updates and any concerns
What We're Looking For:
- Female caregiver preferred due to personal care needs
- Experience with Alzheimer's and dementia care, particularly moderate-stage dementia
- Comfortable providing personal care including bathing and toileting assistance
- Patient, calm, and compassionate demeanor
- Ability to make clients feel comfortable and respected
- Reliable and consistent with strong communication skills
- Takes initiative and can work independently
- English speaking
- Experience caring for multiple clients simultaneously
Schedule:
Starting with a trial period of 2-hour morning visits, three days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday). This allows the family to gradually introduce care and ensure a good fit. The schedule may expand to additional days and hours as the family becomes more comfortable with the arrangement. Flexibility to potentially transition to a longer-term commitment after the initial trial period.
