Tool and Die Maker
The Toolmaker analyzes specifications to design, construct and repair dies. Will set up and operate machine tools, maintain fixtures and related equipment. Works from verbal or written instructions.
What you will be doing as a Tool and Die Maker
- Preparation and maintenance of existing tooling according to requirements.
- Effectively identify day to day tooling issues and implement corrective action where required
- Cleaning of all production tooling to ensure on time delivery and schedule adherence goals are met
- Ensures that all tooling is safe and production ready at the time it is returned for production use following correct PM process
- Ensures Leader is advised when assignments cannot be completed as planned.
- Supports coordination of engineering changes
- Supports maintenance of spare parts
- Prepares and tests tools by laying out / setting up / machining.
- May design / make tools / templates to produce prototype parts of various materials including generating bill of material and complete fabrication and validation.
- Capable of identifying and utilizing external resources (vendors, contractors, technical support, etc.)
- Verifies conformance of machined and or repaired tools to specifications by checking dimensions / clearances / alignments.
- May make parts of various plant machines and tools as required.
- Fits / assembles parts and test completed tools for proper operation.
- Sets up / monitors tools for first time try outs.
- Performs inspections prior to removing tooling from the machine.
- Assist in developing the team as required and to assist with mentoring the toolmaker apprentices
- Actively involved in continuous improvement initiatives
- Continuously adhere to and apply the Magna Employee’s Charter, the Magna Corporate Constitution, and the Magna Operational Principles in all aspects of position and interaction with others.
- Effective use of MDV’s Escalation Process.
- Compliance to IATF customer requirements
- Understands and follows established rules, procedures and policies relating to position.
- Ensure a safe working environment by observing safe work practices and by following all safety policies and procedures.
- Other duties that may be assigned.
What you should have as a Tool and Die Maker
- Intimate knowledge of equipment and processes within scope of job. Certified in use of all required equipment including CNC machines and tig weld tools and dies
- Constantly open to new ideas, open to change and CI, capable of moving ideas into actions
- Skilled in root cause analysis and proven troubleshooting skills in related production equipment.
- Creative problem-solving skills are essential
- Working knowledge of GD&T & SPC
- 5 years experience in transfer stamping environment
- Able to communicate in English (both verbal and written)
- Must have Toolbox/Tools to carry out Tool & Die tasks.
- All Tool Room equipment including overhead cranes.
- Experience in transfer die troubleshooting (die repair, tig welding
- Knowledge in progressive stamping die-set servicing and maintenance
- Inspection equipment (micro meter, height indicator, etc.)
- Various steel and lubricants.
- Administer and execute the preventative maintenance program.

- $40-$43/hr based on experience
