Position: AV Field Engineer
Summary
The Field Engineer is responsible for onsite commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and servicing of electronics communications equipment and network equipment. All work is to meet the highest quality standards set forth by Branch Audiovisual, while assuring a professional and safe working environment. This role demands a deep understanding of both AV technology and network infrastructure to ensure that all multimedia and communication systems operate efficiently and effectively. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology, a problem-solving mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively with other IT professionals and departmental teams.
Responsibilities
- Service and Troubleshooting: Perform service calls on AV and network systems. Diagnose and resolve technical issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance.
- System Configuration: Configure AV and network equipment, including but not limited to, projectors, microphones, speakers, video conferencing systems, switches, routers, control interfaces and firewalls. The Field Engineer, Service must have a comprehensive understanding of AV system architecture and signal flow.
- Control Systems: Field upload of control programs (i.e. Crestron, Extron, QSC) and ability to debug and make minor adjustments.
- System Integration: Work closely with IT and media services teams to integrate AV and network systems, ensuring compatibility and efficiency across all platforms.
- Technical Support: Provide technical support to users experiencing issues with AV and network systems. Offer training and assistance to ensure users can effectively utilize the technology.
- Quality Assurance: Ensuring the quality and functionality of AV systems is a vital aspect of the job. The Field Engineer, Service should perform thorough testing and validation of all integrated systems to verify that they meet the client's requirements and standards.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate & detailed documentation for system configurations, IP schedules, and troubleshooting guides. Document and track system updates and maintenance schedules. This documentation will be used for reference and future troubleshooting. Updating our ticketing system with technical notes, status & timesheets in a timely manner.
- Security Compliance: Ensure all AV and network systems comply with organizational security policies and standards. Monitor systems for security breaches and take appropriate measures to protect sensitive data. Updating our ticketing system with technical notes and status in a timely manner.
- Full compliance with company's and customer's safety program
- Other duties as required or assigned by company management/supervisor
Accountability/Reporting
The Field Engineer will report to the Director of Integration Services. Secondary accountability will be to the Project Manager / Service dispatcher, other management team members, employees, and customers of the company.
Qualifications
- Education: The ideal candidate should possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional certifications or formal training in AV systems, engineering, or related fields are advantageous i.e. AVIXA CTS certification, Crestron, QSC, Extron training.
- Technical Knowledge: A strong working knowledge of communications systems, AV technologies, and equipment is required. Familiarity with Extron, Crestron, QSC, Biamp, and other relevant systems is highly desirable.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities and be able to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently during installations and programming.
- Communication: Effective communication skills are essential as the role involves collaborating with various teams, clients, and stakeholders to understand project requirements and provide technical support.
- Familiarity with version control systems for code management and collaboration.
- Valid drivers license and personal vehicle required.
- Must have or be able to qualify for Government Security clearance.
Travel
Some out-of-town travel will be required for on-site AV system installations project deployments, service and education.
Schedule
Monday to Friday, flexible to work after hours and weekends when required.
