Tamminga Enterprises is seeking a dependable, skilled Pipelayer to join our field crew. Working alongside our labourers and heavy equipment operators, you will play a critical role in ensuring that underground site services are installed safely, efficiently, and accurately to meet provincial and municipal specifications. Previous experience with watermain installation is expected.
The Pipelayer will be directly responsible for the safe and precise installation of underground infrastructure for storm, sanitary, and watermain systems. Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Install watermain, storm, and sanitary systems according to civil specifications, design elevations, and blueprints
- Ensure proper installation of pipe and precast structures while ensuring joint integrity, proper alignments, and accurate grades
- Perform physically demanding work safely, including working in trenches, hand digging, and installing trench boxes/shoring systems
- Complete required safety documentation, inspections, and daily paperwork accurately
- Perform parging of manholes and catch basins, as well as bedding, backfilling, compaction, and grading activities
- Maintain a strong focus on health and safety, ensuring compliance with all company policies and provincial regulations
- Perform other site-related duties and labor tasks as assigned by management to support crew efficiency
Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of dedicated pipelaying experience with a strong, verifiable history of Watermain installation
- Ability to read, interpret, and work accurately from civil engineering drawings and specifications
- Ability to perform physically demanding labor in various outdoor weather conditions, including repeated bending, kneeling, and lifting a minimum of 50 lbs
- Comprehensive knowledge of trench safety protocols, excavation procedures, and Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations
- Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have independent, reliable transportation to commute to the shop and shifting jobsite locations daily
Desired Skills and Attributes
- Strong ability to translate blueprint data, structural details, and invert elevations into accurate field layouts, ensuring all water, storm, and sanitary installations strictly adhere to local utility specifications
- A proactive mindset capable of identifying potential utility conflicts or grading issues on-site and communicating them effectively to supervisors
- Familiarity with Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) and municipal infrastructure guidelines.
- Experience with watermain commissioning protocols is considered an asset
- Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
