Forklift Operator - Recycling Operations

Job Description:
Reporting to and taking direction from both the Yard and Warehouse Supervisors, the Forklift Operator will be responsible for moving bales, totes and containers of recycling material, offloading from trucks, moving items around the yard and within the warehouse for sorting and consolidating recycling materials. Other related tasks includes:
- Moving large compactors, bins and containers around the yard as trucks deliver materials from customer sites
- Sorting of recycling materials into various categories, including: paper, cardboard, mixed containers (plastics, metals, glass), styrofoam, batteries, soft plastics and others
- Operating conveyors & other heavy equipment in accordance with operating instructions
- Maintaining a safe, clean, efficient and organized work area
- Having continual awareness of the surrounding area and other employees to ensure safety at all times
- Working quickly and efficiently to ensure flow of material bins etc. being sorted
- Thoroughly washing all dirty totes and sorting them for pick up by drivers
- Assisting other warehouse staff in the yard and off-loading drivers' totes from trucks as necessary
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as work closely with co-workers when necessary and take direction from supervisors.
Requirements
- Valid forklift certification; experience operating clamp trucks, crane equipment, and pallet jacks is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in warehouse operations or materials handling within a yard or warehouse setting.
- Strong mechanical knowledge related to heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
- Familiarity with OHS safety regulations and best practices for warehouse safety.
- Demonstrate physical stamina for heavy lifting and sound judgement on decision-making

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00-$21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
