Early Childhood Educator (ECE) / Infant & Toddler Educator
Job Summary
Start Smart Childcare Centre is seeking a dedicated and passionate Early Childhood Educator (ECE) / Infant & Toddler Educator to join our team. The ideal candidate will create a positive and engaging learning environment, support children’s development, and deliver age-appropriate educational activities. Strong communication skills, classroom management abilities, and a genuine commitment to children’s academic and personal growth are essential.Experience in early childhood education, special education, or working with children with diverse learning needs is considered an asset. Proficiency in English is required to effectively communicate with children, families, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with children.
- Maintain required staff-to-child ratios at all times.
- Participate in child sign-in and sign-out procedures throughout the day.
- Develop and implement daily program schedules that include indoor and outdoor activities.
- Plan activities based on the abilities, interests, and developmental needs of the children.
- Support both individual and group learning experiences.
- Encourage children’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development through stories, music, play, art, drama, movement, and field trips.
- Help children participate successfully in all activities and routines.
- Guide children in developing proper eating, dressing, hygiene, and toileting habits.
- Prepare snacks and organize classroom spaces for meals and rest periods.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and sanitized learning environment.
- Follow all health, safety, fire, and emergency procedures and actively participate in drills.
- Assist with special events, celebrations, and centre activities, including planning, setup, supervision, and cleanup.
- Document incidents accurately in the centre logbook, including relevant details.
- Communicate children’s progress, behaviour, and concerns with the Director and families, as appropriate.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children, families, and centre operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid BC Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Certificate
- Infant & Toddler (IT) Certification preferred
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification
- Clear Criminal Record Check
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written)
- Experience working with children in early childhood education settings
- Knowledge of special education strategies and experience supporting children with diverse needs is an asset
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational and classroom management abilities
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with educational software
- Strong time management and multitasking skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Leadership skills and the ability to create a positive classroom environment
- Previous childcare or teaching experience preferred
Compensation Starting at $20.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
