Facility Maintenance Operator (Full-Time)
Calgary Girls Charter School (CGCS) is currently seeking a qualified applicant for a full-time Facility Maintenance Operator to support the operations of our charter school authority. The Facility Maintenance Operator plays a critical role in planning, supporting and maintaining all facilities of Calgary Girls Charter School. This position's commencement date is August 10, 2026, inclusive of a three month probationary period.

Reporting Structure and Schedule
The Facility Maintenance Operator reports directly to the Secretary Treasurer and works closely with the Board Office team, School Administration and Office Administration.
Key Responsibilities:
The Facility Maintenance Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of school and Board Office facilities. This role oversees building systems, custodial services, and maintenance activities while ensuring
compliance with all applicable health, safety, and regulatory standards. The Facility Maintenance Operator works closely with school administration and the Board Office to support a clean, safe, and well-maintained learning and working environment. Must be available to respond to after- hours emergencies.
- Coordinator and Director of Facility Maintenance
- Manages all custodial staff (training, scheduling, supervision and evaluation)
- Coordinates with contractors, as needed
- Coordinates with sub-leasors
- Acts as a liaison between the Board Office and the School in support of care of facilities
- Facility Maintenance
- Facility Maintenance Requests
- Establishes and follows an internal process for managing, documenting and assigning facility maintenance requests
- Custodial
- Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates custodial staff
- Schedules custodial staff, approving timesheets, time off etc.
- Orders supplies to support custodial work
- Light custodial duties, as required
- Maintenance of Facilities
- Generates short and long range plans/schedules for the maintenance of the facilities and school grounds (preventative and regular maintenance)
- General day-to-day repairs/maintenance of buildings and school grounds
- Coordinates and manages boiler checks for school campus with contractor
- Plans, organizes and implements activities related to purchasing, receiving, storing, moving and distributing furniture and equipment as required for facilities, including contracted services for facility related items
- Responds to urgent or emergent facility events, within and/or after hours (eg. fire panel alarms, security system breeches, roof leaks etc).
- Grounds maintenance at school campus (snow removal, lawn upkeep, winter sidewalk care)
- Contractor Management
- Coordinates contractors when repairs are beyond skill set (ie. electrical, heating/cooling/HVAC, plumbing)
- Building Security
- Coordinates security and building access, including but not limited to, keying of rooms and distribution of keys, fobs
- Regulation Compliance
- City of Calgary Codes (eg. Fire)
- Provides leadership to ensure workmanship, internal processes and procedures meet regulatory guidelines, codes of practice and industry standards
- Occupational Health and Safety Compliance
- Serves as the Safety Officer and the Chair of the Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Committee
- Ensures and oversees compliance with OH&S standards
- Performs regular site inspections
- Building Lease Compliance
- Ensures coordination and/or communication with leasor for work orders related to building maintenance, where required and appropriate
- Playground and Equipment Inspections
- Ensures regular inspections and maintenance for school playground
- Lockdown, School Evacuation and Student/Staff Safety
- AED monitoring, organizing lock down supplies for facility spaces
- Ensuring that safety systems are maintained and working in case of emergencies (ie. internal/exterior speakers,emergency lights, binds for lockdowns etc).
- Student and Staff Safety/Staff Safety Training
Oversee Public School Works, including staff training relative to building safety in the workplace
- Oversees incident reports related to the work place
- Sub-Lease Management
- Coordinates subleases, including contracts, rates and approval of sub-leasing
- Liaisons between the subleases and CGCS (eg. Choral, Before & After School Care)
- Facility Maintenance Budget Oversight
- Plans and maintains a budget to support the maintenance of the facilities
- Approves and receives invoices (accounts payable and receivable) and coordinates accounts payable for facility related items
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience in building operations, maintenance, or custodial work
- Understanding of workplace safety procedures and building codes
- Ability to manage, supervise and evaluate staff
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to respond to emergencies and manage preventative maintenance
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills to support a collaborative working environment and the ability to create a safe, caring, respectful and inclusive working environment
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- A valid building operator certification, such as Building Operator Certificate (BOC), is an asset
- Have, or be willing to obtain certifications related to WHMIS, OH&S, First Aid/CPR
- Have, or be willing to obtain a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check
- The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods both indoors and outdoors while remaining stationary, traversing spaces, repositioning to reach and use tools and moving a minimum of 50 lbs assisted or unassisted.
Compensation:
- $30-$35/hour based on credentials and experience, with the possibility of moving to salary following the completion of a successful probationary period, Overtime (after-hours, as required)
