The Position:
In support of the Vision, Mission and Values of LutherCare Communities, we are seeking a Food Service Supervisor to join our team.
The Food Services Supervisor (the Supervisor) is an integral member of the LutherCare Communities (LCC), partnering with other leaders to achieve organizational priorities and goals. Reporting to the Housing Manager (the Manager), the Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the overall operation of the central kitchen including menu development, cooking, baking, supervision, budgeting, and inventory and quality control. The Supervisor demonstrates strong leadership to enable an innovative and positive working climate and a resident-first culture. The Supervisor works within the Community and cross-functionally to enhance team building and growth.
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours a week
The Applicants:
Operating in a complex and dynamic environment of housing and supportive healthcare services, the Supervisor will have specific accountabilities which are aligned to that of the Manager to support the achievement of the division’s functions, responsibilities, and accountabilities.
Strategic Alignment
- Advise Manager on team functions and challenges
- Provide leadership, direction, and implementation, including development, execution, monitoring, and reporting, of operational plans that align with the strategic plan and LCC’s priorities and directives
- Develop and demonstrate leadership capabilities and commitment to the culture of resident-first and continuous learning
Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Build and maintain effective internal relationships, partnerships, and alliances that support strong engagement and cross-functional management throughout the organization
- Build, foster, and maintain effective external relationships and partnerships
- Foster communication and a healthy relationship with residents, visitors, and families
Site Leadership
- Provide leadership, direction, and implementation, including development, execution, monitoring, and reporting, of operational plans that align with the strategic plan and LCC’s priorities and directives
- Ahere to policies, procedures, and prioritization tools to support excellence for the purpose of advancing service delivery
- Oversee the servers, cooks and dishwashers
- Direct supervision of talent including hiring, orientation, performance evaluation, development planning and progressive discipline
- Develop and lead a skilled and engaged team through effective communication and teamwork
- Provide input and subsequently manage the cooking budget
- Support and encourage the process of meeting required standards for licensing and accreditation
- Comply with OH&S, legal and regulatory guidelines
Position Functions
- Perform all preparation, cooking, and baking duties according to proper food safety and sanitation guidelines
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of food services
- Maintain proper food inventory levels by counting inventory and ordering food and supplies required for menus as assigned
- Ensure proper storage of all ordered and leftover product
- Standardize and develop new recipes
- Provide orientation for new Team Members including equipment use
- Ensure meals are served in a professional manner
- Organize daily work schedules and stay calm under pressure at peak times
- Maintain quality control initiatives
- Operate and maintain all food service equipment
- Ensure accurate documentation is being retained
- Abide by Policies and Procedures of LutherCare Communities
- Abide by WHIMIS legislation and food safety training
- Complete other job-related tasks as assigned by the Manager
Reporting
- Prepare reports to the Manager using qualitative and quantitative data

Education:
- Grade 12 Diploma
- Journeyman Cook qualifications preferred
- Food Safe Certificate
- WHMIS training required within three months of employment
Experience:
- 3+ years cooking experience in a commercial foodservice establishment or similar experience
- Supervisory experience
- Experience with inventory control and menu development
- Experience in introductory accounting or budgeting
- Experience working with seniors is considered an asset
- Experience working with First Nation and Metis communities is considered an asset
