About the Program
Toolbox to Trades is a federally funded employment and skills training initiative that prepares individuals for careers in the construction industry through hands-on carpentry training, industry certifications, safety education, and employment readiness support. Delivered in a supportive and inclusive environment, the program helps participants build practical skills, confidence, and a pathway into a carpentry career.
Position Summary
CMAW Training Society is seeking an experienced and motivated Red Seal Carpentry Instructor/Trades Trainer to deliver engaging, industry-relevant instruction within the Toolbox to Trades program.
The successful candidate will provide hands-on carpentry training, facilitate safety certifications, mentor participants entering the trades, and help create a professional, respectful, and safety-focused learning environment. This role is ideal for someone passionate about carpentry, mentorship, and supporting the next generation of skilled trades workers.
Duties:
- Deliver instruction in all aspects of the carpentry trade, including formwork, concrete, framing, and finishing across industrial, commercial, and residential applications
- Facilitate safety training programs and reinforce safe work practices throughout all training activities
- Follow established curriculum, training standards, and delivery procedures for programs including IVES, ABCS, and scaffold training
- Collaborate with the training team to support curriculum development and continuous program improvement
- Prepare and maintain classrooms, shop spaces, tools, equipment, and audio/visual materials required for training delivery
- Maintain organized, professional, and safety-focused classroom and jobsite environments
- Load, unload, and transport training materials and equipment using various forklift types and material handling equipment
- Coordinate and schedule practical training components including Elevated Work Platform (EWP), Forklift, Telehandler, and Rigging instruction
- Complete course documentation, evaluations, attendance records, and required reporting
- Ensure participant documentation and records are completed accurately and in compliance with program requirements
- Travel is required across British Columbia.
Required Qualifications:
- Red Seal Carpenter certification required
- Minimum 2 years of instructional, mentoring, or training experience preferred.
- Strong practical knowledge of residential, commercial, and industrial carpentry applications
- Experience delivering or supporting safety training programs considered an asset
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills
- Experience with curriculum development or training program implementation considered an asset
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required
- Reliable vehicle required (vehicle compensation provided)
- Valid fall protection training with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
- Valid confined space training with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
- Valid elevated work platform training with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
- Valid counterbalance forklift training with a minimum of 2 years’ experience.
- Valid rough terrain forklift training with a minimum of 2 years’ experience.
