Position Summary
Grand River Enterprises is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the company's accounting and financial reporting functions. Reporting directly to the Owner, the Controller will provide strategic financial leadership while overseeing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department.
The successful candidate will oversee a team responsible for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and related accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and related staff.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis activities.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business decisions and growth initiatives.
- Coordinate annual audits and work closely with external auditors, financial institutions, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and reporting requirements.
- Monitor working capital, banking relationships, and treasury functions.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
- Support capital investment decisions, business expansion initiatives, and strategic planning activities.
- Prepare financial reports and presentations for ownership and senior leadership.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and teamwork within the department.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- CPA designation is considered an asset.
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Experience managing full-cycle accounting operations and financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Proven experience overseeing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting functions.
- Experience within a manufacturing, distribution, or multi-entity environment is considered an asset.
- Advanced proficiency with ERP systems, accounting software, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and evolving business environment.

Compensation & Benefits
- Expected starting salary in the $100,000-$125,000 range, with final compensation based on the successful candidate's qualifications, experience, and demonstrated expertise.
