Power Quality Engineer 2 - Distribution Standards

Annual salary: $ 89,900.00 - 113,700.00
What you'll do
As a Power Quality Engineer in Distribution Standards you will be exposed to a wide range of technical subjects across
both the Distribution and Transmission systems as you work to identify and resolve customer and network power quality
issues. The ideal candidate will enjoy a mix of field and office work; the field work can take you anywhere that customers
use power supplied by BC Hydro, sometimes requiring multi-day visits to accomplish the work.
The successful candidate for this role would:
- Accept and contribute to our strong safety culture, as you will be exposed regularly to electrical hazard, driving and
working alone;
- Be willing to travel, often alone, to any area of the province;
- Have superior oral and written skills for communicating with customers, writing distribution standards, and possibly
representing BC Hydro on R&D and standards development committees;
- Be adept at building and sustaining functional working relationships with customers and their consultants, planners,
engineers, designers, system operators, and field personnel;
- Have good attention to detail for gathering and analyzing system data from numerous sources;
- Have a working knowledge of PQView software for management and analysis of power system data;
- Have an interest in learning, or already have skills relating to server management, database admin, website development,
and computer programming (MS SQL, Python, VBA, HTML, PHP, etc.);
- Enjoy problem solving; and
- Have excellent organizational and planning skills for managing numerous investigations and projects concurrently
What you bring
- A degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian universities.
- Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the Province of British Columbia
with EGBC.
- 4+ years relevant engineering experience.
- Superior computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, PQView, MS SQL Management Studio, CYMDIST, EMTP-RV).
- Ability to analyze, interpret and evaluate complex technical studies and power system data.
- Ability to analyze and resolve challenging and unusual engineering problems with considerable independence.
- Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills, excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Fully developed or developing technical knowledge in electric utility engineering disciplines (minimum 2 years of
experience in a utility environment).
The following are considered strong assets for this role:
- Experience conducting power quality investigations.
- Experience working with IEC/CSA electromagnetic compatibility standards.
- Working knowledge of PQView;
- Experience with power system simulation software such as CYMDIST and EMTP-RV;
- Computer programming experience (MS SQL, Python, VBA, HTML, PHP, etc.);
