Position Details
The University of Lethbridge is seeking a full-time, continuing position as an Electrician.
This position maintains a safe, stable, and comfortable learning, living and working environment on campus. To accomplish this, requires the operation and maintenance of the entire electrical system on campus, including emergency and life safety systems. This position requires a high degree of self-reliance, team coordination, extensive knowledge base in practical electrical applications, theory, and code. Extensive knowledge of on-campus and off-campus buildings and the need to be comfortable in making autonomous technical decisions while on standby, that can potentially impact the campus electrical system, research, and life safety on a significant level under stressful or a time constrained period.
The electrical team is comprised of 5 electricians who form a rotation for regular and standby (after-hours) duties ensuring a response to issues all hours of the day.
Position Qualifications
- Minimum grade 12 education and an Alberta Journeyman Electrical Certificate or out of province Red Seal designation.
- Along with the educational background, applicants should have 6 years relevant experience in an industrial and institutional maintenance setting. This experience can be through a combination of apprenticeship and journeyman positions. Master Electrician certification and greater number of year’s experience are considered assets.
- Ability to demonstrate their experience with variable frequency drives, co-generation systems, 15KV power distribution systems, medium voltage switching, SCADA system, lighting control systems, security access systems, low-voltage controls, UPS systems, and a strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code. Experience with line locates and thermography are considered assets.
- Possess certificates in the following: WHMIS, Personal Fall Protection, Mobile Elevating Work Platform, Arc Flash and High Voltage Safety.
- A valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than 6 demerits and submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within 3 months of the posting close is required.

$5,291.00 - $5,989.00 monthly
Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)
$5,291.00 - $6,687.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 12)
