YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE
We are looking for a Microbiologist 1 in 6660 Campobello Rd, Mississauga, ON L5N 2L9 CAN. Your mission will be to:
Post Incubation : Transfer and Streaking
Performs basic testing procedures.
- Performs sample preparation and procedures prior to analyses.
- Recording of results in logbooks and on FCDs. Data entry into LIMS may also be required.
- Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) when conducting any laboratory work or procedure.
- Ensures a high level of accuracy in sample prep and analysis.
- Employs proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materials.
- Prioritizes daily workload based on sample and client requirement.
- Provides Supervisor/Manager with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays.
- Understands analysis procedures and problem solves issues.
- Identifies any non-routine samples and seeks guidance on procedures for handling.
- Identifies and communicates non-conformances to Supervisor.
- Maintains training records and relevant qualifications.
- Meets quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements.
- Keeps work area clean, neat and organized.
- Participates, when requested in Department and Health & Safety meetings.
- Participates, when requested in internal and external audits.
- Provides training, technical expertise and mentoring to junior staff
- Ensures that instruments and equipment are appropriately maintained.
- All other responsibilities as assigned.
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
Must be able to work afternoon shifts& weekends; all candidates must be flexible to any shift change & overtime.
QUALIFICATIONS [Minimum Requirements]:
- Post-secondary school education and equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated success in the role of a Laboratory Technician.
- Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).
- Excellent computer skills.
- Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills.
- Works both independently and as part of a team.
- Detail orientated and record keeping skills.
- Learns quickly.
- Adapts to a changing environment.
Work Schedule: Wed -Sun 2:00 p.m. -10:30 p.m.
YOUR PROFILE
The incumbent must have a basic knowledge of microbiology to accurately perform testing procedures
and obtain accurate results.
Profile (required education/qualifications and professional background): One (1)- 2 years of experience. The incumbent must have a general knowledge of microbiology to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain the correct results. Basic chemistry knowledge is needed to prepare the media to the specification of the sample. A basic knowledge of food science is necessary to analyze the microbiological content of samples. Associates degree required, Bachelors preferred or equivalent work experience.
Required skills: Analytical skills are essential to complete analysis procedures and determine the concentration of the microorganism. A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information
Management System is required to process client data. Physical dexterity is required for manipulating samples. A basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and practices is required to ensure a safe working environment. Interpersonal skills are required to effectively work within teams.
Work Environment: The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. Safety equipment of gloves, laboratory coat and eyeglasses may need to be worn depending on the testing process. The incumbent may use the autoclave daily to complete the analysis process. Continuous lifting of analysis materials weighing up to 50 pounds are necessary to transport media materials. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position. The incumbent should be able to detect slight variation in shades of colors.
Pay: $21 CAD per hour
