This is a highly visible role offering exposure to senior leadership and key stakeholders across the business. Our client is seeking a Senior Business Finance Analyst who combines strong financial analysis, business partnering, and commercial acumen with advanced SQL capabilities. This individual will play a key role in supporting business performance, identifying opportunities for growth and efficiency, and providing actionable financial insights that influence strategic decision-making.
Principal tasks and responsibilities include:
- Write complex SQL queries to extract, validate, analyze, and interpret large volumes of financial, operational, and commercial data
- Analyze revenue, profitability, pricing, margins, productivity, utilization, and key financial KPIs to support business performance and decision-making
- Develop financial models, forecasts, trend analyses, and business cases to support strategic initiatives and operational planning
- Partner closely with finance, operations, sales, and senior leadership teams to provide insight into business performance and identify opportunities for improvement
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc management reporting packages, dashboards, scorecards, and executive presentations
- Perform variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods, providing meaningful commentary and recommendations to stakeholders
- Translate complex financial and operational data into clear business insights and actionable recommendations
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning activities across multiple business units
- Identify trends, risks, opportunities, and performance drivers through detailed financial and operational analysis
- Build, maintain, and enhance financial dashboards, reporting tools, and automated reporting solutions
- Validate data integrity, investigate discrepancies, and ensure consistency across financial and operational reporting
- Support business intelligence initiatives, reporting automation projects, and continuous improvement efforts across the organization
- Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership in a concise, business-focused manner
- Participate in strategic projects requiring a blend of financial analysis, business insight, stakeholder management, and technical capability
Qualifications and pre-requisites:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Business, or a related discipline
- CPA, CFA, MBA, or progress toward a professional designation would be considered an asset
- 5+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, business finance, commercial finance, business analytics, financial analysis, or a similar role
- Advanced SQL skills are mandatory. Candidates must be comfortable independently writing complex queries, extracting and validating large datasets, and using data to solve business problems
- Strong experience analyzing revenue, profitability, pricing, margins, costs, productivity, and operational performance metrics
- Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, business planning, and management reporting processes
- Strong understanding of financial statements, financial performance drivers, and business operations
- Experience with Power BI, Excel, and reporting tools. Exposure to Python, VBA, Tableau, or other analytical tools would be considered an asset
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain analysis and recommendations to both finance and non-finance stakeholders
- Strong business partnering capabilities and the ability to influence decision-making through data and analysis
- Ability to bridge the gap between finance, operations, and data by translating complex information into practical business recommendations
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills with a natural curiosity to understand root causes and performance drivers
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Professional presence with the confidence to interact with senior leadership and key business stakeholders
