Position Summary
The Assistant Hospital Manager at Boreal Veterinary Centre is a key operational leader responsible for maintaining the efficiency, safety, and functionality of the hospital’s day‑to‑day environment. Working closely with the General Manager and leadership team, this position coordinates the facility’s operations, vendor relationships, maintenance programs, and internal communication.
This role ensures behind‑the‑scenes systems run smoothly while supporting staff with clear communication, consistency, and reliability. The Assistant Hospital Manager is a valued member of Boreal’s leadership team, contributing to meetings and follow‑up execution on operational goals.
Prerequisites

Postsecondary education in human resource or business management is ideal, although equivalent experience will also be considered.

Minimum 2 years of management or operations experience (veterinary, healthcare, or service industry preferred)

Strong leadership, organization, and problem‑solving skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and operational databases

Ability to manage competing priorities calmly and professionally

Knowledge of safety standards and facility compliance best practices
Essential Job Functions
Operations & Leadership
-
Support the General Manager in overseeing day‑to‑day hospital operations and service delivery.

Process bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees.

Act as a visible and approachable leader for staff, assisting with workflow issues, resource allocation, and daily problem‑solving.

Lead operational follow‑up from management meetings to ensure accountability and completion.

Participate in the investigation and resolution of complex, non-routine problems.

Encourage teamwork, open communication, and a supportive hospital culture across all departments.

Promote and uphold Boreal’s values of respect, collaboration, and growth.

Partner with leadership to maintain operational policies, safety procedures, and compliance documentation.

Coordinate vendor relationships and oversee maintenance and repair schedules; monitor facility readiness and service contracts.

Support the Controller and General Manager with facility‑related cost tracking and budget forecasting.

Maintain confidentiality and data integrity of employee records
Team Development & Engagement

Collaborate with the General Manager during recruitment and onboarding to ensure new hires are set up for success.

Provide administrative and logistical support for training, continuing education, and team development initiatives.

Assist in monitoring employee engagement and morale, escalating concerns appropriately.

Support the General Manager with performance management processes, including assisting with performance reviews, tracking progress on development plans, and coordinating follow-up conversations as required.

Model fair, professional conflict resolution and assist with coaching conversations when needed.

Participate actively in leadership and management meetings, sharing feedback and updates.
Client & Community Relations

Reinforce Boreal’s standard of compassionate, high‑quality client service by supporting the team in handling client concerns and ensuring prompt resolution.

Assist leadership with internal communication initiatives and external marketing events as requested.
Financial & Administrative Support

Support hospital financial processes including cash‑handling controls, vendor coordination, and expense tracking.

Collaborate with the Controller on operational purchasing and invoice approvals.

Work with leadership to ensure facility and operations documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant.

Assist in coordinating approvals for benefit administration or staff record changes under General Manager direction.
