About Us
The Etobicoke Humane Society (EHS) is an independent, no-kill animal shelter in Toronto, Ontario, dedicated to finding permanent homes for dogs and cats. Operated entirely by volunteers, including a volunteer board of directors, EHS is funded solely through donations and fundraising efforts.
EHS is committed to ensuring that no animals are euthanized due to space or adoptability.
General
Relief Office Volunteers are contacted when shift volunteers are unavailable for their regular shift. Shift schedules are 10:00am-1:00pm and 1:00-4:00pm during weekdays, Wednesday evening 5:00pm - 7:30pm and 2:00-6:00pm on weekends. Ideally, we are seeking individuals who have availability to provide relief coverage for a variety of shifts. At minimum, individuals must be available to cover at least 2 of these shifts. We require a commitment for a six month duration.
This position works on-site at our shelter in Etobicoke (67 Six Point Rd).
Key Responsibilities
- Greeting visitors and managing traffic flow for tours
- Answering questions regarding surrendering, adopting, and volunteering in person, over the phone, and over emails
- Redirecting people as required to other resources in situations such as injured wildlife, potential animal abuse, feral cats, spay/neuter clinics etc.
- Accepting and processing donations, merchandise sales, memberships
- Advising public of upcoming events and fundraisers
- Data entry, mail organization, receiving deliveries, writing thank you letters
Qualifications
- Experience working with the public in a reception or customer service position
- Friendly and positive with the ability to manage sensitive and challenging situations
- Ability to remain calm and composed when it gets busy
- Basic computer skills such as using email and searching the internet
- Ability to do some minor data entry, familiarity with google workspace preferred but not required
- Able to lift move small loads (donations) up to 10-15 pounds
- Reliable and comfortable working without supervision
