Braemar Retirement Centre (MacGowan Nursing Home) is an accredited 69 bed licensed Long Term Care facility located in Wingham, Ontario. We are excited to announce we currently have an opening for a professional, enthusiastic, compassionate Nutrition Services Manager to join our team. Responsible to the Administrator, the Nutrition Manager will manage all aspects of food service within the facility to meet the nutritional needs of the residents and to ensure the effective and efficient preparation and delivery of quality meals and refreshments to all residents within legislative and budgetary constraints.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides supervision and direction in the management and operation of all Dietary Services
- Performs Human Resource management of Dietary Personnel, including, but not limited to, scheduling, payroll management, performance management.
- Plans, organizes, directs and supervises activities and routines within the Dietary Department
- Plans and coordinates training and education programs
- Participates in Resident related activities (RAI MDS, Interdisciplinary Care Conferences, Resident Food Committee, other as appropriate)
- Communicates with Residents and/or SDM relating to nutritional needs, choices and preferences.
- Ensures food production and service is in compliance with all applicable Acts and regulations.
- Maintains food and dietary supplies within the budget allocated. Monitors inventory. Prepares invoices as per expectation of the Home.
- Purchases equipment within parameters established by Administrator. Completes purchase orders, approves invoices and submits to accounting within established time frames.
- Develops, maintains and evaluates systems and processes for ongoing preventative, remedial and emergency maintenance of dietary related equipment.
- Develops and maintains logs for recording schedules and inspection results. (In collaboration with Environmental Services Manager where appropriate)
- Conducts and documents regular department meetings.
- Ensures work areas are maintained in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
- Ensures proper care and use of equipment, tools and supplies are maintained.
- Maintains inventory of all equipment and supplies. Maintains an inventory and a system for rotating all emergency supplies.
- Is actively involved in the Quality Monitoring of the department.
- Maintaining a system of regular audits, implementing corrective action for areas identified as deficient and ensuring follow up for ongoing compliance.
- Complete monthly summary of CQI/RM activity and reports as outlined by the Facility. Involves department personnel in the QI process.
- Participates in committee meetings, i.e. Infection Control, Quality Improvement/Risk Management, Fire Safety, Skin/Wound Care Meeting, Occupational Health & Safety and others as required &/or Requested
- Participates in developing the annual education program identifying needs of the department and facility according to MOHLTC LTC Quality Inspection Program, FLTCA 2021, Regs. 246/22, Fire Safety and OH&S legislation.
- Assists in coverage of cook and/or dietary aide duties in the event of inability to fill with unionized staff.
- Other duties and responsibilities as outlined by the Administrator.
Qualifications:
Formal:
- Successful completion of a recognized Food Service Supervisor’s course.
- Qualified for membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (C.S.N.M).
Experience:
- Previous supervision experience in institutional food-service, preferably long-term care setting—minimum of 3 years preferred.
Personal:
- Effective active listening skills
- Effective written and oral communications skills
- Computer skills (proficiency in Word, Excel, Point Click Care®)
- Excellent time management skills
- Policies & Procedures - demonstrates knowledge and understanding of organizational policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate leadership and organizational skills
- Be able to tolerate periods of standing or walking
- Be able to lift 30 lbs.
