About the Role
We are seeking an experienced MOA to join our busy and growing practice. This role is ideal for someone with previous optometry or ophthalmology experience who enjoys working directly with patients, is detail-oriented and thrives on contributing to a positive patient experience.
The successful candidate will be meticulous, patient-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining a high standard of patient care and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Collect and accurately document patient medical histories
- Assist and complete billing and invoicing
- Process and submit insurance claims to third-party insurers
- Schedule appointments and assist with administrative duties as needed
- Support patient flow throughout the clinic and ensure a positive patient experience
- Ensure patient records are handled with confidentiality and discretion
- Work collaboratively with doctors and team members to provide exceptional care
Required Experience & Equipment Knowledge
Candidates should have hands-on experience with the following:
- Submitting third-party insurance to Telus Health and other online portals
- Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Standard office support equipment, such as printers, faxes, scanners, and the like
- Experience with EMR systems
Technical Knowledge
Candidates should have a strong understanding of:
- Medical privacy and confidentiality regulations
- Optometric terms and conditions (Glaucoma, Cataracts, AMD, Base Curve etc.)
Qualifications
- Previous experience in an Optometry or Ophthalmology clinic
- Strong understanding of patient confidentiality and medical record management
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities
- Positive attitude and strong team mentality
Assets
- Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant (CCOA) designation
- VisualEyes EMR system knowledge
Schedule
- Full-time hours
- Monday to Wednesday evenings (until 7:00 PM)
- Saturday availability required
- Flexible days off (Thursday and/or Friday)
