Alberta Health Services (AHS) has an exciting opportunity for a new Lead Hand position based in our Facilities, Maintenance & Engineering (FM&E) Operations department at Chinook Regional Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who has their Journeyman trade certificate and several years of experience in building maintenance using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). In this position, you will oversee trade-related duties associated with maintenance, renovation, repair, and construction in accordance with AHS standards and practices. You will plan and schedule maintenance work, including equipment repairs and preventative maintenance for the hospital’s utility systems. As the Lead Hand – Trades, your responsibilities will include supervising FM&E staff and day-to-day operations, assigning work to journeyperson staff, and collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders to ensure safe work practices and adherence to departmental policies and procedures. Strong project coordination, communication, and organizational skills are essential as you will serve as a key point of contact for vendors, contractors, lead hands, and project managers to review and resolve issues and coordinate maintenance activities. Description:
As a Lead Hand, you will be responsible for providing functional supervision to a moderately sized group of similar journeyperson trade staff. In addition to functional supervision, you will perform a wide variety of journeyperson level trade duties associated with maintaining, renovating, repairing and construction in accordance with AHS standards and practices. You will assign work of journeyperson and supervise staff and perform ongoing maintenance work in an area of assigned trade or related responsibility. In addition, you will provide health and safety training and orientation and ensure compliance.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Certificate in trades from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Class 5 Driver's License. Must possess an Alberta Journeyman Certificate in a relevant trade or a two-year Engineering Technologist Diploma from an accredited college. Knowledgeable about the Infection Prevention Control CSA-Standard. A minimum of 5 years post certification experience working in an applicable maintenance environment is required. Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience, e-Facilities. Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards and certifications as they apply to hospitals. Computer experience in MS Office. ABSA 3rd or 4th class Certification is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Journeyman Electrician, Temperature Control/HVAC or Industrial Mechanic preferred. Five years maintenance experience in a hospital setting is an asset. Building Management System (BMS) experience. Delta Controls. Working knowledge of applicable building systems, hospital situations, hospital non-medical equipment and specialized areas. Previous supervisory or lead hand experience would be an asset. Prior experience in supervising/managing a multi-trade team in a Lead hand or equivalent role.
