The School of Lifelong Learning & Industry Training is seeking an experienced Auto Body Painting Instructor to deliver high-quality theoretical and practical instruction in automotive refinishing. Reporting to the Program Officer, the successful candidate will prepare students for employment in the collision repair industry by delivering hands-on training using current industry practices, products, and equipment.
The successful candidate will foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment while ensuring students develop the skills required to perform professional automotive refinishing to industry standards.
Responsibilities

- Deliver classroom and practical shop instruction in automotive refinishing and painting.
- Teach surface preparation, masking, colour matching, spray gun operation, paint mixing, application techniques, and finishing procedures.
- Instruct students on OEM refinishing procedures and industry best practices.
- Demonstrate the proper use and maintenance of spray equipment, paint booths, and refinishing tools.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, WHMIS requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Assess student performance through practical evaluations, assignments, and examinations.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student records.
- Prepare lesson plans and instructional materials using Centennial College learning systems.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe instructional environment.
- Participate in curriculum review and continuous program improvement.
- Promote professionalism, teamwork, and customer service skills expected within the collision repair industry.
Qualifications/Experience
- Licensed 310Q Automotive Refinishing Technician Certificate of Qualification (or equivalent recognized trade certification).
- Minimum five years of recent experience in automotive refinishing or collision repair.
- Extensive knowledge of modern paint systems, colour matching, blending techniques, and refinishing processes.
- Experience using waterborne paint systems and current OEM refinishing procedures.
- Experience with paint mixing systems and computerized colour retrieval is considered an asset.
- Previous teaching, coaching, mentoring, or apprenticeship experience is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and classroom management abilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and online learning platforms.
- Valid Ontario Driver's Licence is considered an asset.
