Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our eye care team. This role is essential in providing exceptional patient care, supporting clinical operations, and ensuring the smooth functioning of our optical practice. The ideal candidate will have a passion for healthcare, excellent communication skills, and experience in a medical office environment. Prior optical or retail sales experience is a plus, along with familiarity with electronic medical records and medical terminology. Responsibilities
- Assist patients with check-in and check-out procedures at the front desk, ensuring a welcoming experience
- Prepare patients for eye examinations by collecting medical histories and updating electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Epic
- Support optometrists during eye exams by performing preliminary tests and measurements
- Educate patients on optical products, lens options, and frame selections to enhance their eyewear experience
- Manage appointment scheduling, confirmations, and follow-up communications
- Process insurance claims and verify patient insurance information accurately
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinical and front desk areas
- Handle retail sales of eyewear, contact lenses, and accessories with professionalism and product knowledge
- Support pediatric patients by providing age-appropriate care and communication
Requirements
- Previous experience in a medical office setting or optometry practice preferred
- Familiarity with electronic medical records systems such as Epic or similar platforms
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye care is advantageous
- Experience with retail sales or sales techniques is beneficial
- Strong patient care skills with a friendly, professional demeanor
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality service
- Prior optical experience or knowledge of optical products is a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations, including pediatrics
