About the Role
We are looking for a student researcher to act as a short-term mentor for one mentee who is interested in learning more about research, lab work, and the student research experience.
The mentor will be paired with one mentee for one week. The mentee will shadow the mentor for approximately 3 hours per day to observe, learn, and ask questions about research work, lab routines, academic pathways, and general student researcher responsibilities.
This is a great opportunity for a current student researcher to share their experience, build mentorship skills, and help introduce someone to the research environment.
Responsibilities
The mentor will:
- Host one mentee for approximately 3 hours per day for one week
- Allow the mentee to observe appropriate research-related activities
- Explain general lab/research routines, expectations, and academic pathways
- Answer questions about being a student researcher
- Provide a positive, supportive, and professional mentorship experience
- Follow all lab, university, safety, confidentiality, and supervisor requirements
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will be:
- A current undergraduate or graduate student involved in research
- Preferably currently working in a lab or research setting
- Comfortable explaining research work in a clear and beginner-friendly way
- Responsible, professional, and reliable
- Able to commit to 3 hours per day for one full week
- Willing to mentor one individual in a respectful and supportive manner
Preferred Experience
- Current or previous lab experience
- Experience as a research assistant, student researcher, or lab volunteer
- Experience mentoring, tutoring, teaching, or training others is an asset
Compensation
This position pays $40.00 per hour.
